SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN
SCIENCE V

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. relate the ability of material to block, absorb, or transmit light for use;
b. infer on how black and colored objects affect the ability to absorb heat;
c. identify and classify objects as transparent, translucent, or opaque; and
d. differentiate adsorption and reflection.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Interaction of Different Objects with Light and Heat

Reference: Rex Bookstore Science Links Revised Edition pp. 214 - 218
Materials: black and light-colored objects, glass, clear water, cola drink, thermometer, ice cubes, a piece of
black cloth, watch
Values Integration: cooperation and teamwork, appreciate the creation of God

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preliminary Activities
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of Attendance
 Setting of Standards

B. Lesson Proper
 Engage
“Smart Board”
- The students will create their own foldable chart and list of characteristics unique to light under the
right column and characteristics unique to heat under the column left and in the middle middle
column the common characteristics.

 Explore
“Collaborative Activity”
- The students will perform the Activity 7.2: Absorption of Light and Heat with their respective groups.
- The students will discuss and compare their observations with the other groups.

 Explain
“Discussion”
 When light strikes matter, some or all of the energy in the light can be transferred to matter. And just
as a light can affect matter, matter can affect light. When light strikes medium, the light can be
reflected, absorbed, or transmitted. When light is transmitted, it can be retracted or scattered.
 Objects that allow light to pass through are said to transmit light and are described as transparent.
 Some other substances can transmit light but allow the light to scatter or diffuse, making it difficult
to distinguish objects that are behind them. We called these substances translucent.
 Substances that do not submit light at all like stones and wood are opaque materials.
 A good absorber of the radiant energy reflects very little radiant energy.
 Light-colored object reflects more light and heat than dark-colored objects.
 The bending of light due to a change in speed is called refraction.
 Scattering of light is redirected as it passes through a medium.
 Elaborate
“Jeopardy”
- The students with create question from the given answers.

 Evaluate
“Sentence Completion”
- The students will complete the following statements:
a. Today, I learned that ______________________________________________________.
b. Based on what I learned, I realized that _______________________________________.
c. I plan to ________________________________________________________________.

IV. EVALUATION
“Multiple Choices & Reflection”
- The students will answer ‘What to Do’ on page 217 (A & B).

V. ASSIGNMENT
“Read in Advance”
Read and study in advance about the Properties of Sound and Its Effects on pages 219 – 229.
