Outotec Larox® PF-DS filter series

• The filter cloth is on both sides of the chamber

• The filter cake is formed on both sides of the chamber
• The filtrate flows into two directions
• The membranes are on both sides of the chamber

PF-DS process steps – Filling and filtration
Diaphragm /Membrane
• The slurry is pumped through Filtercloth
connecting hoses until chambers Forming filtercake
Filtrate
Slurry
are filled Filtrate Forming filtercake

• The solids build up on the filter cloth

while filtrate passes throught it
• Filter cakes build up on both sides;
upper and lower part of the
chamber

PF-DS Pramod Vaidya

PF-DS process steps – Solids washing through slurry
channel (optional step)
• After filtration, cake washing can be
done using the feed port to
introduce wash water between the
formed cakes
• Due to uniform cake build up and
horizontal alignment, wash water is
distributed evenly to the chambers

PF-DS Pramod Vaidya

PF-DS process steps – Diaphragm Pressing

• The pressing water is used to

squeeze the cake with the two
welded PP diaphragms
• Excess liquid is removed by this
action

PF-DS Pramod Vaidya

PF-DS process steps - Cake washing through filtrate
channels (optional stage)
• Cake washing can be done by filtrate
channels of the plate.
• Washing liquid is fed into the upper part of
the chamber, penetrating the cake from top
to bottom
• Cake pressing remains on during washing,
preventing channeling of the wash liquid

PF-DS Pramod Vaidya

© Outotec – All rights reserved
PF-DS process steps - Counter flow cake washing
(optional)
• Difficult product require additional
measures to increase the washing
efficiency
• Flowing direction of the wash liquid can be
changed in order to improve washing
efficiency
• During the counter flow washing, washing
liquid is introduced to the solids from botton
to top through the filter cake

PF-DS Pramod Vaidya

PF-DS process steps - Membrane pressing II

• Second cake pressing is similar as the

pressing I
• The last pressing can be done with up to
16 bar pressing pressure
• This step is also preparation for air drying
stage

PF-DS Pramod Vaidya

© Outotec – All rights reserved
PF-DS process steps – Air drying

• Cake air drying is done via filtrate

channels.
• The cake is fixed between the two pressing
membranes. This ensures safety against
cake cracks and flow bypasses.
• Compressed air is supplied either from top
to bottom
• Top to bottom is standard to securely
remove liquid from upper cake surface.

PF-DS process steps – Cake discharge

• The cake discharge is done with the

moving filter cloth, only to one direction
• Complete cake discharge is ensured by
filter cloth scrapers
• Automatic cloth cleaning with (optional
high pressure cloth washing) pressure
water during cake discharge
