Fengshan stations design is inspired by the ancient streets and

alleyways of the old town. Its lower floors are acessible as open spaces
that connect with the rest of the city, forming a continuous urban
texture. A green corridor bridge tries to connect the east and west
side. On the other hand, the distinctive green field and the gigantic
arched corridor respond to the axis of ancient waterway on north side
and south side. This creates an all-around “heart of four-axis” concept,
allowing Fengshan Station to connect to essential urban features in
four directions: Kaohsiung Bikeway in the west, Wetland Corridor in
the east, Fengshan Cultural city in the south, and commercial blocks in
the north. It will be the new vision of Fengshan town. As part of the
Kaohsiung Railway Underground Project, Fengshan Station is
positioned to the east of Kaohsiung Station and west of Houzhuang
Station. Once completed, the railway underground project will bring
new opportunities for urban developments between the North and
South and evert the negative stereotypical images, as the back alley of
the city, of railway stations. Moreover, the inhabitants of Fengshan city
are enthusiastically looking forward to welcome the new station,
which could bring a lot of new opportunities to this historic city both
culturally and economically. Following the concept idea, inspired by
urban streets and alleyways, Fengshan Station creates a semi-outdoor
commercial space on the third floor, bringing back memories of the
old Date Street, Furniture Street, Ju-Ren Alley, and old department
stores such as Cao-Dian-Tou. This will bring vitality to the station and
scale the commercial spaces back to a more traditional level. In
addition, cinematic-culture commercial chain will also be introduced in
Fengshan Station. It is inspired by legendary film director Hsiao-Hsien
Hou, also a local resident of Fengshan. This would provide an
entertainment and leisure space for local residents; besides, by
incorporating movie theatres and experimental studios, Fengshan
Station will be the pathfinder to help transition the commercial
developments of the city and provide youngsters a start-up space as a
foundation to develop their entrepreneur career. The old brick turret
of Fengshan Ancient City is the main influence of the building style and
materiality. It integrates with the Swallow Tail Roof Ridge of Fengyi
Academy, in order to bring back the glorious memories of the
Fengshan North Gate, which is also known as the “First Gate of the
World.” As trains enter and leave the station, people can recall the
good old times, while crowds are passing through the North Gate. As
local residents stroll at the grass field around Cao Gongzhen, the
green corridor of the railway, or the open spaces on each floor, one
can almost recall the memories of walking on the walls of the Fortress
City and overseeing the entire Fengshan sceneries.
