REPORT

Introduction

The main purpose of this report is to analyse foreign language learning in Romania, my
country. It will offer a review of what is available and also make some recommandations on
how to improve.

Most wanted languages

Studies have shown that more than 60% of the people in Romania have a tendancy to learn
English. This is in part due to the fact that it is an easy-learning language which over the years
have become more and more present in our lives through mass-media and social networks.
Needless to say, French is also a language which is highly thought of by romanians because
there is an increasing number of people who go abroad to work in foreign countries in order
to earn a better living. England, France and Germany are among those countries.

Learners

Regarding the population, the ones who are more exposed to foreign languages and who are
most likely to learn them are the children. Hardly do they learn how to write their name in
romanian when their parents start to look for language courses or private lessons.
Furthermore, the majority of teenagers nowadays are bilingual, speaking their mother
tongue and a foreign language, usually English, as well.

Where to learn

Even though state schools provide language courses, many parents prefer to have their
offspring learn another language by taking up private lessons. Another method to improve
your vocabulary is learning from Internet. However, it is not generally recommended as it is
not a reliable source.

Recommendations

Taking all of the factors of this report into account, the best plan of action would be to invest
money in language learning groups which would imply learning a new language more
efficiently by participating in practical activities.
