EXPLANATION BY SLIDE

A pleasant day to all of us!  We are grateful to all of you who are here with us
as we make ourselves informed to our interesting topic for today. Without further ado,
let me introduce to you the topic that we’ll discuss today. Today, let’s find out what are
the RIGHTS AND PRIVILEGES OF GLOBAL TEACHERS.

Let me read to you our objectives. (You will read all in slide 2, after that you will
add this, “I am pretty sure you will all be able to accomplish all the objectives for today’s
webinar. You can all do it! )

Let’s have a quick and short review first. What are RIGHTS by the way? ( You
will read the definition.)

In simpler words, a right is something a person has which people think should not
be taken away. It is a rule about what a person is allowed to do or have. Rights may be
put into laws, so they have legal protection.

Here are examples of rights, specifically, natural rights. (You will read all in this
slide.) These are our rights that no one can take away from us.

Now, how about privileges? What are these? (You will read the definition.)

In simpler words, it is a special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only


to a particular person or group.)

Here are some of the examples of different privileges. (You will read all in the
boxes.)

What are the then differences of rights and privileges? How do they differ?

(You will just read all written in this slide starting from the RIGHTS VS PRIVILEGES
then its examples.

To provide quality global education to our students, there must also quality global
teachers who are armed with enough skills, appropriate attitude and universal values to
teach students with both time tested as well as modern technologies in education in any
place in the world. He or she is someone who thinks and acts both locally and globally
with worldwide perspectives, right in the communities where he or she is situated.

Now with this big responsibility of being a global teacher, he/she is entitled to
have rights and privileges which are in line with our laws.

With that being said, let me share to you some of the rights of a teacher in the
Philippines which are also applicable in being a global teacher.

We have here, (you will read all in the slide starting from the title then its detail.)
This act simply means that if a teacher has already served for 15 years or more, he/she
can retire at the age of 65.

Next we have (you will read all in the slide starting from the title then its detail.)
This Act provides further that a teacher with educational qualifications or civil service
eligibility higher than the standard required for the position to which he is appointed,
shall be given a higher entrance salary than a teacher who merely meets the standards.
It also provides that salaries of all the school personnel shall first be adjusted in
accordance with the entrance salary rates prescribed in this Act.

This will help public school teachers compare favorably with other professionals and
therefore will attract and retain in the teaching profession more qualified people who are
aware that education is an essential factor in the economic growth of the nation.

decree entails that there should be an increase of 100 pesos per month to the teacher’s
pension and 50 pesos to his/her beneficiaries.

Moving on, we have (you will read all in the slide starting from the title then its
detail.) This executive order provides a bifurcated system of budgeting for the
supervisory and the teaching group. The salary of the Head Teacher is the same as the
salary of Master Teacher I, Principal I and Master Teacher II, etc

detail then proceed to the next slide.)

Furthermore, for the wages/salaries, (you will read start from The International
until the teachers.

Now on the next slide, we have here further details of the Legal Rights of
Teachers. (You will read all in this slide.) This Executive order aims to provide just and
reasonable wages, allowances, and benefits to teachers.

We have here other labor standards for teachers. First we have, (you will read all
in this slide.) This means that teachers will have an additional wage for working beyond
their schedule.

Next is health and welfare of the teachers. (you will read all in this slide)
Obviously, this is for the health and welfare of the teachers, just like any other workers
they have rights under the law which is for their own good.

One of the rights of a global teacher is the ( read everything) Teachers are
committed to providing a working, learning, and living environment free from
discrimination and harassment and to fostering a vibrant, nurturing community founded
upon the fundamental dignity and worth of all of its members.

Next is (read everything). This is only applicable for legally married teachers who
wanted to be employed in the same school.

Lastly, is (read everything). Similar also with other employees, teachers have the
right to file for indefinite leave if and only if the illness demands long time of treatment.

Now that we’re done with the rights, let’s now proceed to the privileges of global
teachers. Again, these are only some of the privileges granted by law to Filipino
teachers that are also applicable to being a global teacher.

First we have, (read everything). This is a privilege for the teachers as they are
by law, persons in authority. Therefore, those who are found guilty of assault to them
will be subjected to penalty or imprisonment.

Next is (read everything). In addition to that, Magna Carta’s Section 24 states:


“During the period of such leave, the teacher shall be entitled to at least 60% of his
salary: Provided, however, that no teacher shall be allowed to accumulate more than
one-year study leave, unless he needs an additional semester to finish his thesis for a
graduate study in education or allied courses. Provided, further that no compensation
shall be due the teacher after the first year of such leave.”

Now we have (read all). To give you more details, Regular teachers with two and
a half or more years of service are entitled to 60 days of maternity leave with full pay,
while those with less than two and a half years of service are entitled to 60 days, with
half pay while Temporary teachers with at least two years of service are entitled to 60
days of maternity leave with half pay.

Teachers are also privileged to do Outside teaching (read all). Therefore,


teachers are free to teach private evening schools only and not more than 12 hours a
week.

SLIDE 28

Teachers also have compulsory insurance (read all) This means that teachers
have life and retirement insurance. They are also required to be GSIS members for
them to have these insurance and benefits. However, this is not applicable to substitute
teachers.

One of the privileges of being a teacher is vacation pay. (read all)

Thus, as global teachers they also have the privilege to be on vacation with pay except
those in sick leave basis. Even the temporary teachers can as long as they have served
for at least 6 months.

We also have here (read all). This means that all public global teachers can
borrow money from the Government Insurance System, but it should not exceed his/her
monthly salary.

Lastly, we have here Tenure of office. (read all) This privilege basically gives
teachers a lifetime contract. It prevents teachers from being fired for something small all
the way up to severe misconduct or incompetence.
