SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The final chapter includes the summary of findings on the basis of the specific
problems formulated, the conclusions drawn, the recommendations formulated, and the
appendices formulated.
SUMMARY
This study will assess information about the effects of utilizing of online

references on the learning abilities in calculus of students from Grade 12 – STEM in

Calculus during the school year 2022 – 2023 in San Carlos College

Specifically, it seeks to answer the following questions:

1. What is the demographic profile of the Grade 12 students in terms of:

a. Gender,

b. Study habits, and

c. Frequency of the internet usage

2. What is the level of learning difficulties in several areas do Grade 12 –

STEM students encountered?

3. Does utilizing online references has an effect on the learning abilities in

Calculus of Grade 12 - STEM in terms of:

a. Academic Performance
b. Academic Motivation
c. Academic Goals
d. Intellectual Ability
4. Is there information and sources from online references that become a

beneficial tool for the understanding and knowledge enrichment of STEM

students in Calculus class?

5. Is there a significant difference in the student’s test scores who use online

references and who do not?

The hypothesis that there is significant relationship between the profile variables

of the students and their level of performance in Calculus was tested at 0.05 level of

significance in its null form.

The descriptive developmental method of research was employed in this study.

There are 21 students from the San Carlos College used in this study. An action plan

was proposed by the researcher to enhance the performance of Calculus students.

The instruments used to gather the needed data in this study are the

questionnaire related to the Calculus subject.

Frequency counts and percentages were used to describe the profile variables of

the students-respondents such as personal variables in terms of gender, study habits,

frequency of the internet usage, and academic performances. Average weighted was

used to describes the students gender, study habits, frequency of the internet usage,

and academic performances. Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to establish

the relationship of the profile variables of the students and their level of performance in

Calculus as revealed by the test results.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS

Based on the inferential and descriptive analysis on the gathered data, the

following are the primary points of the findings of the study:

1. 16 or 76.1% of the respondents are female.

2. 5 or 23.8% of the respondents are male.

3. There is a significant relationship between the effects of utilizing online

references on the learning activities of Grade 12 STEM students in San Carlos College.

4. The students have “often” study habits (2.61).

5. Students strongly agree (4.32) on the frequency of internet usage while

connecting to the Calculus subject.

6. Students’ “often” (3.73) on how well did they do related to the academic

performances.

7. The study habits of Grade 12 STEM students is highly correlated to their

academic performances on Calculus subject.

CONCLUSIONS

The above study was conducted to investigate the effects of utilizing online

references on the learning abilities of Grade 12 STEM students in calculus. Through a

comprehensive analysis of the data collected and the findings obtained, several

conclusion were drawn:

1. There are more female Grade 12 STEM respondents than male respondents,

according to the frequency distribution of the respondent's gender, and

reveals the students in Grade 12 STEM respondents' study habits. It emphasizes the

significance of study habits for knowledge expansion and academic performance. The

table demonstrates that the questioned students commonly engage in good study

practices such taking notes during class discussions, adhering to study schedules,

finishing assignments ahead of time, and finishing them without assistance. The results

point to a significant relationship between students' study habits and academic success.

2. focuses on how frequently STEM students in grade 12 use the internet. The

table shows that while some students only occasionally or when necessary utilize the

internet, others do it more frequently. The evidence suggests that having access to the

internet can boost academic achievement, as pupils with internet access have improved

more than those without. Though it doesn't appear that certain internet usage habits

(such as varying frequency or using several sources of connectivity) have a substantial

impact on academic achievement.

It is advised that educational institutions offer administrative support for internet

infrastructure in light of the findings, ensuring that school computer labs are set up with

internet connection. Students should also learn how to use search engines efficiently to

acquire academic information online, as access to the internet at school is considered

crucial for improving academic performance.

3. The convenience and accessibility that internet references provide is one of its

main advantages. Online references are accessible with just a few clicks, unlike

traditional learning resources like textbooks or encyclopedias. This immediate

accessibility gives students access to a plethora of knowledge at any time and from any
location, enabling them to pursue self-directed learning and investigate topics outside

of the classroom.

Additionally, online sources offer a wide selection of educational materials in a variety of

formats, such as articles, videos, interactive simulations, and multimedia presentations.

Students in Grade 12 STEM in San Carlos College are involved in a more engaging and

immersive learning process thanks to these dynamic materials. In addition to improving

understanding, visual aids, actual examples, and interactive exercises help encourage

critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

4. Online resources also promote collaborative learning situations. Students in

Grade 12 STEM in San Carlos College can interact with students from various countries

and backgrounds by participating in online chats, joining virtual study groups, and

visiting educational forums. This collaborative method of instruction promotes active

engagement, peer learning, and the sharing of various viewpoints, enhancing the

learning process as a whole.

Online sources also provide current expertise and information. Traditional printed

documents may become swiftly out of date in rapidly expanding subjects like science,

technology, and current affairs. Online materials, however, are frequently updated to

give students access to the most recent research findings, news, and developing trends.

This currency of knowledge provides students with current and correct information,

helping them to keep up with developments in their specialized sectors.

RECOMMENDATIONS

In view of the stated findings and conclusions in this study, the following

recommendation are offered:

1. Build a strong foundation in algebra and trigonometry. Calculus relies heavily on

these fundamental mathematical concepts. Ensure you have a solid understanding of

algebraic manipulation, functions, equations, and trigonometric identities.

2. Master the basics. Take the time to thoroughly understand the fundamental concepts

of limits, derivatives, and integrals. These concepts form the backbone of Calculus and

are essential for advanced topics.

3. Practice regularly. Regular practice is key to understanding and mastering Calculus.

Solve a variety of problems from textbooks, online resources, or practice worksheets to

reinforce your understanding of different techniques and applications.

4. Seek additional resources. Utilize additional resources like online tutorials, video

lectures, and interactive websites to supplement your classroom learning. Websites

such as Khan Academy and MIT OpenCourseWare offer comprehensive Calculus

resources.

5. Understand the real-world applications. Explore the practical applications of Calculus

in fields like physics, engineering, economics, and computer science. Understanding

how Calculus concepts are used in real-life scenarios can enhance your motivation and

help you grasp the subject more effectively.

6. Work collaboratively. Form study groups or join online forums where you can discuss

and solve problems with peers. Collaborative learning can provide different

perspectives, clarify doubts, and make the learning process more engaging.

7. Seek help when needed. If you encounter challenges or have specific questions,

don't hesitate to seek help from your teacher, classmates, or online communities.

Getting clarification early can prevent confusion from building up.

8. Review and revise. Regularly review previously covered topics to reinforce your

understanding. Calculus concepts are interconnected, and revisiting earlier material can

help you make connections and solidify your knowledge.

9. Connect theory with practice. Look for opportunities to apply Calculus concepts in

practical settings. For example, analyze real-life data using differentiation and

integration or solve optimization problems using Calculus techniques. This can enhance

your understanding and demonstrate the relevance of the subject.

10. Stay persistent and patient. Calculus can be challenging at times, but don't get

discouraged. Stay persistent, be patient with yourself, and celebrate your progress

along the way. With consistent effort, you can develop a deep understanding of

Calculus.
