CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

These chapters provide the overview of the study and

explain its rationale by presenting the Introduction,

followed by the statement of the problem, assumption,

significance of the study, scope and delimitation and

definition of terms.

Learning through digital materials is what is meant by

“e-learning”.In this teaching method,students use

computers, smartphones, and tablets to learn, and they are now

unavoidably connected to the internet. There are various

e-learning formats ,including blended learning and fully

online training.online learning is an

ovell-established,expanding,and permanent trend.It is

generating new prospects for academic staff, educational

regulators,and academic institutions themselves.

With the advent of COVID-19 pandemic and the shutdown

of universities worldwide for fear contamination due to the

spread of the coronavirus, higher educational institution

have deemed necessary to adopt new learning strategies,

exclusively online,to deliver their curriculum content and

keep from the corona virus widespread at bay.Technology was

called upon to play this portal learning online role,of ito

has influenced people’s task accomplishment in various way.

One of the benefits of using online teaching/learning

is that here is a need to explore new teaching strategies

and principles that positively influence distance

education,as traditional learning methods are becoming less

effective at engaging students in the learning process

However ,there are some challenges for instructor such as

the selection of the most appropriate educational

strategies and had best to design learning tasks and

activities to meet learner’s needs and expectations.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Generally, this study aims to determine the impact of

online modality to the Academic performance of Grade 11

students of ACLC Naga. Specifically, the study seeks to

answer the following questions:

1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of online

modality to the academic performance of grade 11 students

of ACLC Naga?

2. What are the impacts of online modality to academic

performance?

3. Does the online modality have a huge or positive impact

on students' learning?
SCOPE AND DELIMITATIONS

This study will involve Grade 11 students of ACLC Naga

in Nagaland E Mall Naga City. This study aimed to determine

the effect of using modern teaching methods.

This study will be conducted inside the school campus

of ACLC Naga . The time frame of this research will lact

until November 2022.

This study focuses on the impact of online modality to

the academic performance of grade 11 students .We conduct

some research through the internet and survey the grade 11

students to determine the impact of online modality of

their academic performance.

This study will be conducted in ACLC Naga. The

selection of respondents only included the grade 11

students. This study will be able to understand what the

student of ACLC Naga feel about the impact of online

modality of their academic performance. The study will not

cover the other personal issues of the students that aren’t

related to the research topic.

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

The study is anchored from the theoretical support of

the Online Collaborative Learning by Harasim (2012). She

describe OCL as follows ‘OCL theory provides a model of

learning in which students are encouraged and supported to

work together to create knowledge: to invent, to explore ways

to innovate, and, by so doing, to seek the conceptual

knowledge needed to solve problems rather than recite what

they think is the right answer. While OCL theory does

encourage the learner to be active and engaged, this is not

considered to be sufficient for learning or knowledge

construction……In the OCL theory, the teacher plays a key role

not as a fellow-learner, but as the link to the knowledge

community, or state of the art in that discipline. Learning is

defined as conceptual change and is key to building knowledge.

Learning activity needs to be informed and guided by the norms

of the discipline and a discourse process that emphasizes

conceptual learning and builds knowledge.‘ Because of this

theory, it supports our research paper, to give knowledge to

the readers, how online learning affects the academic

performances of the student and theories that give the positive

impact of online learning that also support our problem

statement.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

IV - DV MODEL

The figure presents the relationship between the

online modality and the academic performance. This

framework is generally developed based on the relevant

literature review of existing studies gathered for this

research.

However, the researchers considered online modality as

an independent variable and academic performance as the

dependent variable.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Students: They will benefit from this study by learning the

benefits and drawbacks of using the internet to communicate

as well as the effects it has on them.

School administrator: This study will help them to know the

positives and negatives of online modality. So that they

can understand their student and give a solution to its

negative impacts.

Future Researchers: This study will support them or serve

as the foundation for a similar study they plan to perform

that examines the effects of the online learning

environment on pupils. Should be aware of the effects of

the internet medium, both good and bad.

HYPOTHESIS

Ho : there's no difference in attending online class

between sustainable and unsustainable internet connection.

Ha : The student who did not attend the online due to

the unstable internet, It can affect the academic

performances of the student.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

The following terms are conceptually defined for use

of the would-be readers of the research:

Online Modality. A method of delivering education in

which,during instruction,learning occurs between a teacher

and students who are physically separated from one

another.Modular distance learning(MDL),online distance

learning(ODL),and TV/radio-based instruction are the three

subtypes of this modality.

Grade 11 student. Senior high school(SHS)refers to

grades 11 and 12,the last two years of the K to 12 basic

education program. In SHS,students are required to go

through a core curriculum and subjects under a track of

their choice.
Academic Performance. Academic performance/achievement

is the degree to which a student, instructor,or institution

has met their immediate or long-term learning objectives

and is assessed continuously or through a cumulative grade

point average.
