Title:

The Comparative Assessment between a Traditional Class

and an Online Class in terms of the Effectivity in Knowledge Attainment
and Learning Literacy of Selected SHS Students
*school to be followed

Objectives:

 To test the knowledge of students in terms of attending online classes rather than
traditional ones.
 To promote comfortable learning environment among students.
 To seek convenience and flexibility among students in terms of time schedule and
availability.
 To improve technical skills in using devices such as laptops, personal computers, tablets,
and cellular phones as well as the skills in academics using physical and mental abilities.
 To promote career advancement to working students.

A. Why is your topic worth studying?

The researchers have chosen to study a topic that is timely, effective, and can
benefit other people. The current situation faced by some students is the lack of budget
due to high tuition rates and shortage of courses. In this case the students seek for
alternative solutions and by that, students consider taking up online classes. (10
Advantages to Taking Online Classes)This study has significance in promoting higher
education. This study will help estimate the difference in learning outcomes between
students who enrolled in an online section and students who enrolled in a traditional
section of the same class. Focusing in online classes alone, there are pros and cons
provided to be compared to traditional classes. In this case, balanced comparisons will be
presented about the two concepts.
Online classes are different from traditional classes, in a way that the two ideas
present the same goal which is to provide education and award degrees. The researchers
want to study not only the educational attainment but also its effect to students’ learning
environment. This is to know the difference of studying in a traditional curriculum and
internet-based curriculum. (How Are Online Colleges Different From Traditional
Colleges). It is worth studying because the concept about traditional and online classes
promotes change and improvement among students. Different views and opinions about
the concept will be brought up to this study. This will enlighten the students taking up
traditional classes to consider online classes and vice versa. Both classes provides
negative and positive outcomes to the students resulting that the future study that the
researchers will conduct will not be biased and none of the variables will have more edge
to the other.

B. How will it benefit other people?

Different views and opinions about the concept will be brought up to this study.
This will enlighten the students taking up traditional classes to consider online classes
and vice versa.

Online classes can be less expensive because the tuition fees for online courses
are at low costs. Taking up online classes gives convenience and flexibility for the
students with tight schedule. This can be helpful to students that already have families
and to those working students; time scheduling is based on the availability of the student.
Online classes focus on teaching on the skills that can get you a job and on the specific
topics that can enhance your skills in your future work. At some point, online class also
limit career options. Online class wouldn’t make one a doctor, nurse, or an engineer
because it is pure on the digital space and internet use.

On the other hand, traditional classes can give a student the experience the
feeling of being a student and the feeling of doing multiple tasks, using of books, notes,
and promoting social interactions. People will recognize your educational attainments
and degrees by the diploma one will get for the minimum of four years of education and
grades. Traditional classes will give the students the facilities and the necessities needed
for future work. Traditional classes are also expensive and getting employed is still at risk
because there are cases that a person doesn’t have the skills needed for one’s preferred
job (Rauch, 2015).

This study will be beneficial to school administrators wherein the data collected
can be used on deciding upon adopting online classes for their schools. Finally,
budgeting for technology in each school district is of great importance. This study might
provide information to policy makers about funding for technology and online
coursework in alternative school settings.

C. What are the ways in making your study measurable?

In conducting a research, the methods used by researchers may either be
qualitative or quantitative. The method will be selected based on the researchers'
judgement and based on the nature of the research topic. In this study, the researchers
will use quantitative methods. Quantitative Methods are research methods that utilizes
numbers as its basis in making generalizations about a phenomenon. (Regoniel, 2015)

To make this study measurable, the researchers will select respondents through
Systematic sampling. In this sampling method, the selection is in every nth element of the
population. This study will utilize a kind of Quasi-experimental design, the Non-
equivalent controlled group design. In this research design, pre-test and post-test will be
given to the experimental group and control group where the respondents are grouped
accordingly. The researchers will use questionnaire as an instrument in data collection.

As for the results, the researchers will utilize the T-test to compare the means of
the results.
