contamination from physical, chemical, and biological sources.
It refers to any materials used to cover, protect, preserve, promote and market goods.

Protection
Often regarded as the primary function of packaging: To protect its contents from
outside environmental effects.
For example: Products like biscuits, bread, jam etc.

Preservation
Prevention or inhibition of chemical changes, biochemical changes and microbiological
spoilage.

Information
It contains the information about the products.
Example: product requirements, ingredients, nutritional value
Convenience
This features ease of access, handling, and disposal, and product visibility.
Presentation
This considers the materials, size, shape, colors, merchandising display, etc.
Communication
The ability of consumers to instantly recognize products through distinctive branding
and labeling enables supermarkets to function on a self-service basis.
