Chapter 1

Computer literacy is defined as the knowledge and ability to use computers and related

technology efficiently, with skill levels ranging from elementary use to computer

programming and advanced problem solving. Computer literacy can also refer to the

comfort level someone has with using computer programs and applications. Another

valuable component is understanding how computers work and operate. An individual's

level of computer literacy is measured on the scale of how skilled students are when it

comes to using computers and other related tools to achieve a goal. Computer literacy

may be distinguished from computer programming, which primarily focuses on the

design and coding of computer programs rather than familiarity. Various countries,

including the United Kingdom and the United States, have created initiatives to improve

national computer literacy rates.

In today's modern world, students are expected to have a certain level of computer

literacy because technology has become an integral part of the education system. The

purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between Computer Literacy and

ICT students' learning outcomes. It is relevant to study the impact of computer literacy

on ICT students' learning outcomes because computer literacy has become an essential

skills in today's world. With the increasing reliance on technology in most

sectors, computer literacy has become essential for almost every profession.

Therefore,it is critical investigate how computer literacy affects ICT students' learning

outcomes. The study will explore the relationship between computer literacy and

students' academic performance, determining whether students with a high level of

Computer literacy performs better in ICT students. Moreover, this study is important
because it sheds light on the significance of integrating computer literacy into the

academic curriculum. The research finding will inform educators about the benefits of

computer literacy in promoting students' academic achievements in ICT subjects. By

investigating the impact of computer literacy on ICT students' learning outcomes, the

research will provide valuable insights into how technology can improve education.

Computer literacy differs from digital literacy, which is the ability to communicate or find

information on digital platforms. Comparatively, computer literacy measures the ability

to use computers and to maintain a basic understanding of how they operate. A

person's computer literacy is commonly measured through questionnaires, including the

ability to write and modify text, troubleshoot minor computer operating issues, and

organize and analyze information on a computer .

To increase their computer literacy, computer users should distinguish which computer

skills they want to improve, and learn to be more purposeful and accurate in their use of

these skills. By learning more about computer literacy, users can discover more

computer functions that are worth using. Arguments for the use of computers in

classroom settings, and thus for the promotion of computer literacy, are primarily

vocational or practical. Computers are essential in the modern-day workplace. The

instruction of computer literacy in education is intended to provide students with

employable skills.

Rapid changes in technology make it difficult to predict the next five years of computer

literacy. Computer literacy projects have support in many countries because they

conform to general political and economic principles of those countries' public and
private organizations. The Internet offers great potential for the effective and

widespread dissemination of knowledge and for the integration of technological

advances. Improvements in computer literacy facilitate this.

Literacy is the ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate and

compute, using printed and written materials associated with varying contexts. Literacy

involves a continuum of learning in enabling individuals to achieve their goals, to

develop their knowledge and potential, and to participate fully in their community and

wider society. Generally, literacy also encompasses numeracy, the ability to make

simple arithmetic calculations. The concept of literacy can be distinguished from

measures to quantify it, such as the literacy rate and functional literacy.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

* How does computer literacy affect ICT student's learning outcomes?

* How does proficiency in basic computer operation skills, such as, navigating, file

systems and typing, affects students' ability to engage with ICT curriculum and produce

high-quality work?

* What strategies can be implemented to improve computer literacy among ICT

students?
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

As the study focused on the impact of computer literacy on students' possible learning

outcomes, the following groups of people are likely to benefit from the research: "The

Impact of Computer Literacy on the ICT Student's Learning Outcomes".

The students It will be helpful to them as it will enhance their understanding of the

importance of computer literacy, help them understand the benefits of being computer

literate, and motivate them to improve their computer skills.

The teachers can also benefit from this study as it also assists them in understanding

the connection between computer literacy and learning outcomes, which will enable

them to develop appropriate teaching strategies to enhance students' computer skills.

Future researchers, as the study can serve as a guide on how to conduct a study on the

impact of computer literacy on learning outcomes and also guide them in framing their

research questions and objectives related to this research.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

Computer literacy is one of the most crucial skills that students need to acquire in the

ICT (Information and Communication Technology) strand. The ICT strand is designed to

give students the knowledge and skills to effectively use technology in various contexts.

This study aims to investigate the relationship between computer literacy and the

learning outcomes of students studying Information Communication Technology (ICT) at

the Asian Institute of Computer Studies (AICS). In this setting, computer literacy is

essential for students' overall performance in the ICT strand.

Students that are computer literate can use a variety of software and hardware tools

efficiently, which is necessary in the ICT industry. Students who have mastered

computer literacy can navigate.
