developing technical skills in computer system servicing, such as increased employability,
improved problem-solving skills, and enhanced critical thinking abilities.

This research study will involve conducting interviews and surveys with Grade 11
ICT students, teachers, and industry experts to gain a comprehensive understanding of the
factors affecting the development of technical skills in computer system servicing. The
results of this study will provide valuable insights that can be used to enhance the quality of
ICT education and equip students with the necessary skills to thrive in the 21st century
digital world.

Background of the Study

Developing technical skills is crucial for ICT students because the field of information
and communication technology is constantly evolving, and employers require their
employees to have up-to-date technical skills. ICT students can keep current with emerging
technologies and tools by gaining technical abilities, making them more useful to potential
employers.

Furthermore, developing technical skills can lead to enhanced employability, as

companies seek applicants with the precise technical abilities needed for the position.

1
Employers frequently utilize technical abilities as a screening criterion when hiring,
therefore having good technical skills can boost your chances of getting a job.

In addition, the ICT industry is extremely competitive, so ICT students may have an
advantage over other job applicants by developing technical skills. Employers are
constantly on the search for people with a varied set of technical abilities, so it is critical for
ICT students to acquire as many relevant technical skills as possible in order to boost their
employability.

Overall, technical skill development is crucial for ICT students pursuing employment
in the industry since it can lead to more work options, higher pay, and more job security.

The Computer System Servicing (CSS) curriculum trains students in the installation,
configuration, and upkeep of computer systems and networks. It enhances students'
abilities to do computer operations as well as to diagnose and troubleshoot computer
systems. The course improves a student's proficiency with fundamental computer software,
Windows setup, and PC hardware and software support. Simple programming and the
generation of budget forecasts based on departmental requirements are also covered in the
training. Nowadays, a large number of individuals utilize computers on a daily basis all
around the world. A basic understanding of computers will enable you to function in today's
society and save you from getting behind.

The capabilities of computers, software, and hardware all increase with time. For
instance, someone who has a basic understanding of a word processor may work more
quickly and enjoy themselves. Likewise, being proficient in computer language and
terminology makes you more productive when using other types of technology.
Furthermore, you can program these devices, know how to maintain them, and operate
more effectively with them if you have a deeper understanding of how to use computers.
Since it keeps them operating smoothly and effectively, computer repair is crucial. It can
also aid in avoiding the emergence of larger issues in the first place.

Those who maintain their computers on a regular basis might avoid expensive
repairs and downtime. The curriculum improves a student's proficiency with MS-DOS,
Windows, Linux, and PC software and hardware support, as well as with fundamental
computer application programs. Everyday people employ computers, which are found
worldwide. You will eventually need to use a computer to do your work, regardless of the
industry you decide to enter or are already in. Possessing basic computer abilities and
knowledge can help your job in a variety of ways. You can accomplish more with computers

2
more quickly. Your productivity can be successfully increased by being able to use one. If
you don't know what you're doing, though, you can end up doing more harm than good.

The importance of technology in today's world is enormous, and it will only continue
to increase. The numerous advantages of employing computers in the classroom are
becoming more and more apparent to school districts and institutes of higher learning.
These days, almost everything is done online. In addition to enhancing student learning,
using computers in the classroom allows teachers to impart more knowledge to their
students. Here are a few ways that computers can enhance classroom instruction.

There are a number of websites that were created specifically to support students and
teachers. With messaging and discussion forums, these websites enable interaction
amongst classmates. Teachers can interact with their students by taking part in
discussions, marking homework, posting grades, and communicating with them. Knowing
how computer hardware and software operate will enable you to be flexible and grasp any
changes. When dealing with new programs, such as updated content management
systems or new technological features, having this knowledge might give you the upper
hand. As your job depends on your ability to use computers effectively, you must develop
the abilities to keep up with changes in the field.

Technological skills development is a central issue for a country’s educational and
social policies. Throughout their school career, from primary to secondary education and
later in higher education, students have the opportunity to build and develop various skills,
including technological. Considering the different needs and different uses that these skills
encompass, these will certainly be necessary and useful in students’ academic and
professional life.

More than half of Filipino workers are using mostly general skills that are not attuned
to the modern technology-driven world, according to a recent study of state think tank
Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS).

Technical-vocational education and training (TVET) programs can also be leveraged,

particularly for those who want to shift their career paths but do not have the necessary
skills and training needed for the job.

(Authored by PIDS senior research fellow Connie Bayudan-Dacuycuy and De La

Salle University professor Lawrence Dacuycucy 2022), the study found that around 62
percent of the country’s working population are working as service, clerical, and support
workers; service and sales workers; skilled agricultural, fishery and forestry workers; and
workers in elementary occupations. These jobs include software quality assurance analysts
and IT support staff.

This research shows a correlation about our study developing technical skills in
relation of employability seeing that as a grade 11 ICT student who aims to develop and
enhance more our technical skills to have a better and high chance of Employability in the
field of technical skills.

RA 10647 This Act shall be known as the Ladderized Education Act of 2014 states
the declaration institutionalizes laddered interface between technical-vocational education
and training (TVET) and higher education. With the accordance of constitutional guarantee
to promote the right of all citizen for quality and accessible education at all levels. To
establish, maintain, and support a complete, adequate, and integrated system of education,
relevant to the needs of the people, and to contribute to the national development.

It also acknowledges and encourages the development and defense of the inborn
permanent academic freedom that all institutions of higher learning already have. The
government must protect academic standards, equality principles, the timeliness and
uniformity of applications, admissions, and equivalency policies of higher education
institutions in order to achieve this goal.

Theoretical Framework

This study is anchored on the skills theory Katz (1955:34) and theory of Employability
by Yorke and Knight (2004). Katz defined skills as what the leaders are he argued that
effective leadership or management depends on three basic personal skills:
technical, personal, and conceptual. According to Katz (1955:34) these skills are required to
a different extent at different levels of management. Leaders must possessed technical
skills that assist them optimizing managerial performance. On the three skills set defined by
Katz, technical skills are the broadest. On the other hand, the theory of employability by
Yorke and Knight (2004) states that employability as the outcome of one’s learning,
achievements and understanding of personal skills to be successful in employment in their
chosen career thus developing technical skills is a crucial skill to be honed and possessed
by employees to perform their task and do the best of their ability in the workplace and
make more valuable candidate for employers.
