SLEEPING TOPIC

1. How many hours do you sleep every day?

Usually I sleep for seven to eight hours every day in order to let my body relax.
But if I want to do something very important at night, I could only sleep for less
than four hours.

2. Is it necessary to take a nap every day?

Yes, I believe that after having lunch at noon, it’s beneficial for body to take a nap,
half of hour would be enough, to brace for the tasks in the afternoon.
Do you have a nap during the day?
To be honest, I tend to snooze off mostly, after having lunch. It gives me energy
required to carry on with the day because by lunch time I start feeling emaciated.

3. Do old people sleep a lot? Why?

Yes, I guess the elderly people do need to sleep more. I believe the reason is that
after years of working, stress and the natural process breaks down people’s body
until all they want to do is sleep, consequently, their bodies take longer to recharge
the batteries.

4. How to have a good sleep?

I believe you have to follow several rules to get a good sleep regularly. Firstly, go
to bed at the same time every night. Choose a time when you normally feel tired,
so that you don’t toss and turn. Besides, make sure your bed is comfortable so that
you can stretch and turn in bed comfortably. As well as that, stay away from big
meals at night or try to make dinnertime earlier in the evening, and avoid heavy,
rich foods before bed.

5. Do you like to get up early in the morning?

Yes, getting up early in the morning is really beneficial for health, because I can
enjoy the fresh air in the morning; besides, I have plenty of time in the morning so
that I can do some physical exercises liking running and jogging; as well as that, I
can prepare a good dinner for the family.

6. Can you sleep well if you are in a noisy environment?

Well, I’m afraid I can’t fall asleep in the noisy place like barking dogs, loud
neighbors and city traffic because I used to sleep quietly from childhood. So
sometimes I envy someone who grows accustomed to environmental noise and can
sleep well in whatever place.
What time do you go to bed?
I have organized my days as such that I go to sleep by approximately 10 pm.
Do you think sleep is important?
Well, surely yes, it is important. Sleep helps ones body to relax and gain back
some energy to perform the task of future. Even more it helps in proper functioning
of brain and nervous system.
Do you go to sleep early or stay up late?

 Well, I normally go to bed at about 10 p.m. as I believe there’s no point

sacrificing sleep for other activities. No matter how important they might
seem, the benefits of doing them will not outweigh the harm sleep
deprivation will do to my health.
 I usually go to bed early (at about 10 p.m.) because in terms of health
benefits, one hour of sleep before midnight is known to be worth two hours
after midnight.
 Unfortunately, I’ve become a bit of a night owl as of late so I go to bed at 2
a.m.
 I never manage to go to bed before midnight as there are either urgent work-
related issues or interesting things to do.
 Oh, no matter what, there’s always something that prevents me from going to
bed before 1 a.m. Sometimes I meet my friends after work, sometimes I stay
in the office until late.
 You know, I’m a night owl therefore I never go to bed early. Every time I try
to make myself change my sleep schedule and go to sleep earlier, I just end
up staring at the ceiling.
 Unfortunately, I don’t go to bed until 2 p.m. It makes me feel drowsy the
next day. I hate it, but I can’t change anything.
 Recently I’ve started going to bed as early as at 9 p.m. because I decided to
have more sleep.
 Oh, I guess I’m doomed to be a night owl. It is at night when I turn into a
person of indomitable energy. I manage to get lots of stuff done before I
retire for the night.

Do you think staying up late in a good thing?

Theoretically, I hardly think so because according to alternative therapy, it is not.
But in reality, it brings me with sheer enjoyment.

Have you overslept before?

I have ever overslept a couple of times last year. I woke up ten minutes before I
was due to start work/ study (we're contracted to start 20 minutes before the bell).
Luckily I only live ten minutes from the school, thank god for working in a country
town. I was only 5 minutes late in the end but hadn't had breakfast or brushed my
hair.
Do you like to have “line-in” sometime?

DO people sleep enough in your country?

I think people in my country do not sleep enough. The main reason for this is that
they do not manage time between their work-time and the respite.

Compared to the past, do people sleep more or less?

What are the negative aspects about not sleeping enough?

Which hours are the best for sleep?

PART 2

Describe a night when you could not sleep at all.

You should say:

 when it happened
 where you were then
 why you could not sleep that night
and explain how you felt about it.

I often go to bed at late night and a sleepless night is not a rare experience for me..
However, I would like to talk about a night I spent at a hospital and could not sleep
even for a second.

It was 2015, probably the mid-July and all of a sudden my grandfather has got a
pain severely. The doctor who came to our house to check my grandfather advised
us to take him to the city hospital. We called for an ambulance and took my
grandpa to the hospital. My parents and two cousins were in the hospital. They
were all very worried. The doctor told us that it was wise of us to bring the patient
to the hospital without any delay as it could have been very disastrous. He also told
us that this was a minor operation

At around 11.00 pm the doctor operated my grandpa and he was unconscious. I

stayed at the hospital until the next noon and could not sleep at all.

Frankly speaking, I was not bothered about sleeping at all. A hospital is not a place
where a patient's relatives and family members can sleep. I prayed to help my
grandpa get well soon. At around 4.30 in the morning came to us and gave us good
news. My grandpa was conscious at that time and he wanted to see us. That was
great news indeed and we thanked the sister who gave us this news. That was big
news for us as it confirmed that my grandfather was doing okay.

It was a sleepless night but I did not feel dizzy or sleepy at all.
