Format Guide for Disaster Readiness Risk Reduction Case Study

Final Output: Case Study on Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction


Management and Climate Change Adaptation
Date Due: May 5, 2023

Aim:

This task would augment students’ knowledge on how to implement disaster readiness and risk
reduction and in order to scientifically formulate effective and efficient disaster-resilient
community approaches in accordance with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal
and Disaster Risk Reduction Preparedness and Mitigation Frameworks.

Task:

Write a case study, recent or not, about any disaster or event tragedy that had happened and
caused the attention of the world discussing important concepts that can be learned and can be
practically applied in order to achieve successful disaster management and climate adaptation
program.

Procedures and Guidelines:

NOTE: READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY.

1. The case study will be accomplished individually.

2. The case study should only contain maximum of 5 pages and minimum of 3 pages.

3. In making the case study, follow the suggested format:

I. Title. (Description of the Disaster. Put the title in boldface at the top of the page, just above
your first paragraph).
II. Background of the Study. (Introduction, brief history, or profile of subject)

III. Content. (Discuss the main story of the disaster. Pictures can be included).

You may use the following guide questions:


a. What type of disaster occurred and what caused it?
b. How, where, and when did it happen?
c. Who and how many people were affected?
d. What is the extent of the damage in terms of loss of life, economy, finance, infrastructure,
health, environment, property, etc?
e. Was there any pre-disaster preparedness and mitigation program done?
f. What were the post-disaster rescue and relief operations and interventions done by the
community?
g. What were the effective and non-effective interventions done?
h. How were they able to recover, restore, and rebuild their community?

IV. Conclusion. (Final assessment of why the tragedy happened. Root cause analysis why did it
happen. State lessons learned.)

V. Recommendation: (Suggest ways and recommendations in order not to happen again. As a


DRRM student, what are your disaster preparedness plans before, during or after the disaster?
What should have been done if you were on their shoes or if you were the top management or
head of the organization or Local Chief Executive?).

VI. References. To support your ideas, you may refer to scholarly references and articles. Be
cautious in choosing your references. Verify whether these articles are written by credible
authors and published in reputable journals.
