ORGANIZATOINAL BEHAVIOUR II

1. Introduction:

One of the defining characteristics of a modern organization is the team orientation.


The organization structure, work structure, systems, processes, performance goals
and results are all designed around high performance teams. In short works in
organizations are accomplished through and with the teams. By now it is well accepted
that teamwork is pivotal to organizational performance and effectiveness.

While OB1 develops an overall understanding of individual behavior and its application
in organizations, OBII intent to understand behavior of groups in organizations and
build skills in the participants in understanding and appreciating interpersonal and
group processes for increased effectiveness both within and outside organizations.

1. Objectives:

2.1 To acquire a demonstrable understanding of small group behaviour and its


impact on the organization

2.2 To develop observational and diagnostic skills with respect to human behaviour
in groups

2.3 To pick up necessary skills for using the tools and techniques for group work
and team building in organizations

2.4 To develop skills in facilitating group behaviour in the specific areas like team
building, decision making, leadership, trust, power, politics, empowerment,
conflict, negotiation, inter-group collaboration, innovation and change
management leading to organizational effectiveness
COURSE CONTENTS
Please refer to the book on ‘Organizational Behavior by Stephen P. Robbins. Chapters
are indicated against each of the Session and its topics. Detailed readings of the
chapters are essential for completing the course well.

Session 2: Analyzing group and group Behavior
Session 3: Group decision making and group illnesses
Session 4 & 5: Work Teams: Chapter 10
Session 6&7: Leadership: Chapter 12
Session 8: Power and politics: Chapter 13
Sessions 9: Conflict and Negotiation: Chapter 14
Session 10: OB for life and personal mastery

PEDAGOGY

The course is designed in such way to facilitate an online learning in a phased manner.
The learning modes include lectures, online interaction, forum discussion, case analysis
and publishing the same on the AIS and self-learning exercises.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

End Term Exam: 50% (multiple -choice based). Make-up exam if any will be subjective
and will not be multiple -choice based
Group written assignment: 50% (Submission in soft copy-Pattern word doc. with a
minimum of 3000 words).
Forum participation: We can be in conversation even when we are not in session.
