LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS

Properties of number
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the student will be able to:
a. Differentiate the terms of polynomials.
b. Solve the sum and difference of the polynomials.
c. Appreciate the use of addition and subtraction of polynomials in real life situation.

II. Subject Matters

a. Topic: Add and Subtract polynomial
b. References: Mathisfun.com
c. Materials: Laptop, Power point presentation , Study Smarter

III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Learner’s Activity
A. Daily Routine
1. Prayer
“Before we start, please all stand and (The student will all stand)
let us have a short prayer”
“Yes Sir, are you ready to pray
“____ , please lead the prayer” classmate?”
“Yes we are” (Classmate)

2. Greetings
“Good morning, Grade 7- Love” “Good morning Sir Jom”

3. Checking of Cleanliness and

Orderliness
“Before you sit, please pick up the (The student will pick up the pieces
pieces of paper under you chair and of paper under their chair and table.
table. Also arrange your chair properly” They also arrange their chair
properly)
“You may sit now”
“Thank you Sir”
4. Checking of Attendance
“Do we have absentees for today?
Can i have the list of those absent” “Yes Sir”
“Thank you”

5. Review
“Okay, before we proceed to the
next topic, let us recall first what we (Raising their hands)
have discussed yesterday.
Anyone?” “Arranging real numbers in
increasing or decreasing order”
“Yes, ____?”
“Example 81, 97, 123, 137 and 201
“Very good, ___” are arranged in ascending or
increasing order”
“Can you give an example?”

“Example 187, 121, 117, 103 and 99

“Correct, Another example” are arranged in descending or
decreasing order”

B. Motivation
In our motivation will be using a Study
Smarter for an Instructional Material.
This IMS will show some flashcards
that’s have an equation about
polynomials and each of you will
answer it. “Yes Sir”

“Are you ready class?”

“15cats and 6 dogs”
(flashing the cards)
“Jack has 8 cats and 2 dogs. Jill has 7
cats and 4 dogs. How many dogs and
cats are there in all?”

“That’s correct, next question”

(flashing the cards)

“Rhonda has 12 apples, Douglas has 6 “18 apples and 9 orange”
apple but Rhonda has a twice of
number of orange as Berta. Bertha has
3 orange. How many apple and orange
that they have?”

“Excellent, last question before we

proceed to our lesson“

(flashing the cards)

“Jack has 7 cupcake and he give the 3

to his friend while Fred has a 5 ice “4 cupcake and 7 ice cream”
cream and Linda give her another 2 ice
cream. How many cupcake and ice
cream left?

“Good job!”

C. Discussion
“Let’s proceed now to our topic
which is adding and subtracting
polynomial”

“A polynomial looks like this”

“To add polynomials we simply add any

like terms together”

“Like terms are terms that have the

same variable and power. In order
words, terms that are like each other.”

“We have two steps to add

polynomials, first is to place the like
terms together and second is add the
like terms”

For example add the polynomials

2x + 6x + 5 and 3x – 2x – 1
Start with: 2x + 6x + 5 and 3x – 2x – 1
Place like terms: 2x + 6x + 3x – 2x + 5
–1 “Yes Sir”
Which is: (2+6+3-2)x + (5-1)
Add the like terms: 9x + 4
“(4x + 5x + 3x – 2x) + (1 + 2) = 10x +
“Did you get it class?” 3”

“I will give an example of polynomial

and try to add it. Example 4x + 5x + 1
and 3x – 2x +2 is equal to?”

“Very good”

“Next is subtracting polynomials, To

subtract polynomials first reverse the
sign of each term we are subtracting
(in other words turns + into – and – into
+ ) then add as usual”

For example:
+ 2xy – 9 ) – ( )
+ 2xy – 9

Turns the + to –
+ 2xy – 9
– “Yes Sir”
Then add :
Final answer :
“Did you get it class?”

“I will give another example and one of

you will answer the problem” -

“ ) answer this question “ Turns the + into –

-
“Good job, _____”

“Do you have question or clarification “Thank you Sir and Goodbye”
about our topic for today? I think it’s
none. Thank you class see you next
meeting. Goodbye class”

D. Past Lesson Paper (Raising their hands)

1. Generalization “Sir, our topic for today is all about
“Again, What is our topic?” Add and Subtract polynomials”

“Yes, _____?) “first is to place the like terms

together and second is add the like
“That’s correct, how do we add terms”
polynomials class?”
“first reverse the sign of each term
“How about in subtracting we are subtracting (in other words
polynomials?” turns + into – and – into + ) then add
as usual”
