I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson the students are expected to:

1. Define Perfect Square Trinomial.

2. Factor trinomials that result in a perfect square trinomial after removing a
common factor from each term.

II. CONTENT/SUBJECT MATTER:

Topic: Mathematics: Factoring Perfect Square Trinomials

III. LEARNING RESOURCES

Reference: Math Encyclopedia, Volume III, 2010 Edition

Instructional Materials: Projector, Laptop, PowerPoint Presentation, Chalk

IV. PROCEDURE

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary/ Learning Activities

1. Prayer (All students will rise)
Please stand up for the Interfaith Prayer. (The Class Pres. will lead the Interfaith
Class President, Kindly lead the Prayer. Prayer)
Interfaith Prayer
Oh God, creator of heaven and the universe
you are worthy of our praises. In you aoone,
we pray and submit ourselves for we are
nothing without you. We humbly ask for your
forgiveness and mercy.
Dear Lord, we gather here today with the
intent of doing good in their name. Guide us to
the right path and may our efforts be blessed
with insights, understanding, wisdom, and
respect for all.
May our deep faith in you, gives us the
strength to act honestly and well in all matters
before us Amen. In the name of the Father, and
of the Son, and the Holy Spirit.Amen."

2. Greetings!
Good Morning Class!
It's nice to see you again in my subject! “ Good Morning, Ma’am Rosa! It's nice to see
--------------------- you too!”
Kindly pick up the pieces of paper under your
chair and check the alignment of your chair in
rows and columns. (Student’s pick up the pieces of paper, arrange
You may now take your seat. their chairs and they settled)

Let us check your Attendance, say "I am here

teacher" when your name is called.
" I am here Teacher"

A.Lesson Proper
1. Review
Who can explain on what we have discussed
yesterday? Anyone?
Yes! Zoe Rhyns. "Ma'am our lesson yesterday was about
Precisely, can you give me some examples? factoring the difference of two squares."

"Yes, Ma'am"

x²-9
Solution:
Is it correct Class? x²-9 = (x-3)(x+3)

Very Good, Zoe Rhyns! (Students will agree)

Let's give a "Wow Clap to Zoe Rhyns"
(Students will stand and perform the "Wow
B. Motivation/Warm Up Clap")

(The teacher will present one equation, to

know if they do an advanced study.)

49x²-70x+25
Okay, class! who wants to volunteer?
Evaluate the problem I display.
Yes, Jamella?
" Ma'am"

49x²-70x+25
Excellent! = (7x)²+2(7x)(-5)+(-5)²
It seems like you do an advanced study on this =(7x-5)²
topic.
Okay let's give a "Sana All clap" to Jamella

(Students will stand and do the "Sana All

Clap")

C. Lesson Proper/Presentation

(Teacher will discuss the Lesson)

We have learned that (m+n)²= m² +2mn + n².

The product (m+n)² is called a Perfect Square
Trinomial.
For us to know if the given polynomial is a (Students will listen attentively)
perfect square trinomial, we should observe
the following:
1. The first and the last terms or two terms
must be perfect squares such as a² and b².
2. Twice the product of a and b should be 2 an
which is the remaining term of the trinomial.
Example:
9x²+12xy+4y²
Solution:
9x²+12y+4y²= (3x)²+2(3x)(2y)+(2y)²
= (3x+2y)²

Another Example:
1.) x²+6x+9
2.) 4x²+ 24x+ 64

Who wants to try? "Ma'am"

Yes, Daphnie?

1.) x²+6x+9
Solution:
x²+2(3)(x)+(3)²
(x+3)²
Very Good! Daphnie
How about number 2? "Ma'am"
Yes Kinah
2.) 4x²+32x+64
Solution:
(2x)²+ 2(2x)(8)+(8)²
Very Good Kinah... (2x+8)²
Alright, Let's give a "Dionesia Clap" to Daphnie
and Kinah. (Students will stand and perform the
"Dionesia Clap")
--------------------------------
D. Generalization
Factoring Perfect Square Trinomial is easy! So,
who can generalized what we need to
remember in Factoring Perfect Square
Trinomial?

Yes! Jiv? " Ma'am'

In factoring perfect square binomial we should

remember the following
1. The first and last terms or two terms must
be perfect squares such as a² and b².
2. Twice the product of a and b should be 2ab
which is the remaining term of the trinomial.

Bravo! Jiv.
Keep it up! It seems like you did a great
advanced study on this day's topic. ___________________________________________________

V. Evaluation
Get 1 whole sheet of paper!
Direction: Factor the following completely. 1.) x^6 +26x³+169
1.) x6+26x³+169 Solution:
2.) 4x²-12xy +9y² x³+ 2(x³)(13)+13
=(X³+13)²

2.) 4x² -12xy +9y²

Solution:
(2x)²- 2(2x)(3y)+(3y)²
=(2x-3y)²
