Teacher’s Activities Student Activities

A. Preparation Activities

1. Routine
 Greetings Good morning, sir Harold.
Good morning class?
 Prayer Jasmine:
Jasmine, lead the Angel of God, my guardian dear
prayer. To whom His love, commits me here
Ever this day, be at my side
To light and guard, to rule and guide
Amen.

 Set standard Everyone stand up and arrange the

Everyone please rise up. chairs.
Arrange your chairs in
u-shaped manner. Students do the jumping jacks.

After that everyone go

to the middle. Let’s do
five jumping jacks.
They take their seats.
Okay,I think everyone is
finally awake now. You
may now take your sits.
2. Drill

The teacher give an activity.

(Powerpoint presentation)
Let’s start answering the
following:
1x1
2x2
12x12
19x19
The teacher call a student to
answer. Rei Andy: 1 sir
Rei Andy what is the answer of
1x1?
Very good! Marlon: 4 sir
How about 2x2?
Okay I feel that Marlon wants
to answer. Okay sir.
Right.
Okay. Let’s make it bigger
number okay?
12x12? Sir 144
Yes, Jean.
Very good! 361 sir
Last, 19x19? Yes, Kim Althia?
Precisely correct.

3. Recall

What is our topic last meeting? Everybody: Yes sir.

Do you still remember?
So, What is our topic? Yes,
Lovely joy? Lovely Joy: our topic last meeting sir is
Very good! about Equation
What is an equation?
Anybody? Jhellian? Jhellian: it is a statement that the
value of two mathematical expressions
Absolutely correct! are equal, indicated by an equal sign.
Who among you here can give
an example of a mathematical
expression? Marlo?
Marlo: 3x+2=17 sir
Correct!

3x+2=17 is an equation, since

the two mathematical
expressions 3x+2 and 17 is
equal indicated by an equal
sign.
4. Motivation
(the student group themselves into 2
Puzzle Time! and select their leader)
Group yourselves into two.
Select a leader who will Group 1
present the activity given on
each group. Group 2
(The teacher will provide an
envelop containing cutted
puzzle papers)
You need to fix the puzzle in
order to reveal the concept.
(the activity will take 5
minutes)

Group 1

Group 2

Group 2 finished first and their leader

reveal x²=25 on the board.

Group 1 leader also present on the

board x²=16.

Both are correct and a big round of

applause to group 2 who finished first.

What do you observed about the puzzle?

All: It is an equation sir
Very good!
B. Developmental Activities

1. Presentation

Our topic for today is all about

“ quadratic equation factoring” The students listen to the discussion

2. Discussion

Quadratic equation can be

solve by 3 ways:
a. By factoring
b. By completing the squares
c. By quadratic formula
Today, we will solve the two
roots of the quadratic equation
by factoring.

Okay class, now let’s answer

the revealed equation of group
1. (Silent)
x²=16

Does anyone know the

answer? Hearing none.

To answer this quadratic equation using

factoring is first, we will extract the
square root of the equation. Please take
note that quadratic equation will always
have two solutions.
So, in this case one of which is the
positive square root and the second is a
negative square root.
For x²=16, to extract the roots of both
sides, the left side of the equation as u
can see is x². The power of the variable
x will be ommited and the right side of
the equation which is 16 will have the
square root sign.

X= ± 16 ; thus the two roots

of the equation x²= 16 is +4 and -4. All: Yes sir

Is it understood?

Okay. We will answer the equation

reveal to us by Group 2 which is

So in the same manner as u can see the

left side of the equation, the variable x
has the power of 2 and it will that
squared will then be ommited leaving
the variable with no power . So only x.
And the right side of the equation which
is 25 will have the square root sign.

X= ± 25 ; thus the two roots

of the equation x²= 25 is what?

Anyone?

Yes Rei Andy?

Yes you are correct! Rei Andy: +5 and -5 sir.

Lets have this equation, 3x²= 27.

For this , we will divide both the left side

and the right side of the equation by 3.
3x²=27
3 3
Giving the result of x²=9. The left side
of the equation as noticed, the variable
x is raised into the 2nd power. The power
of the variable will then be ommited
leaving only x and the right side of the
equation which is 9 will have the square
root sign.

X =± 9 ; thus the two

roots of the equation 3x²= 27 is +3 and

-3.

Is it understood?

Any questions?

C. Enrichment Activity All: yes sir

( Individual activity)
All: none
On your seat, answer and extract the
roots of the following equations;

1. x²=81
2. 2x²= 98

Are you all done answering? (The students do their individual

activity)
Okay, we will check your answers.

On the board answer number 1 Jasmine All: yes sir!

and number 2 Jhellan.

(Group Activity) Jasmine and Jhellan answered.

Group yourselves into 3 and select a
representative that will answer and
explain on how to extract the roots of
the equation on the board.

We will have a draw lots and each

representative will pick one equation
that is in the box. And the equation (The students group themselves into 3
picked by their respective representative and select a representative).
will be answered by group.

x² = 256

2x² = 242

5x²= 500

Group 1 pick 5x²= 500

(Each representative pick one equation
Group 2 pick x² = 256 in the box)

Group 3 pick 2x² = 242

The group started to solve the

problem and their representative able
to extract an explain the two roots of
the equation on the board.
D. Generalization:

Do you all understand the quadratic All: yes sir!!!

equation by factoring?

Alright, reminder students that if the

power was raised to the even number
like 2,4,6,and so on, the answer will
have a negative and positive sign. Why?
Because we know that when we multiply
two numbers with the same sign
whether it is both positive nor both
negative the answer is always positive. All: okay sir.

What are those things you have learn

upon doing the group activity?
Shaira: Helping each other sir.
Okay very good!

What else?
Justine: doing the activity teaches us
Thank You Justine. to work collaboratively sir.

Why is it important to have collaboration

in doing things? Shane: In the collaboration sir the
things will be easily be done.
Yes that is true Shane . More heads are
better than one.
So any questions class?
All: None sir

IV. Evaluation

Get ½ sheet of paper crosswise and

answer the following.

Direction: Extract the roots of the ANSWERS:

following quadratic equation:
1. ±7
1. x²=49 2. ±19
2. x²=361 3. ±21
3. x²=441 4. ±5
4. 5x²=125 5. ±10
5. 6x²=600

V. Assignment

For your assignment, you need to group

yourself into 5 and after that you will
compose a song based on what you’ve
learned in the lesson today.
