M3 L1 Part 1- Check-in Activity: Connective Tissue Proper

Statement #1

I. Evelyn is 55 years old, 5'1'' in height and weighing 150 lbs. She believes that adipose
tissue dies as a person diets, and new cells are formed as weight is gained.
- Disagree, the energy reserves in adipocytes are mobilized during its weight reduction, and
adipocytes shrink. While gaining weight, the energy will store and the adipocytes will get
bigger. The Weight gain only induces by the formation and growth of white fat cells, often
known as adipose tissue.
Statement #2

II. Ronnie is a thin young man who has more brown fat than Ken who is an overweight
young man.
- Agree. There are two types of adipose tissue, which is the white and brown adipose. White
adipose tissue also contains a variety of hormones that play varied functions in metabolism
and endocrine function. The Brown adipose tissue, which is mostly present in neonatal
animals, creates heat and actually consumes energy. The proportion of brown adipose tissue
present in individuals diminishes with age. That instance, Ronnie is slender and has more
brown adipose tissue, but Ken is overweight and has more white adipose tissue, which means
that as it burns, it produces heat without shivering because brown fat burns off surplus
calories as heat.
