Document Tile : Piping Hydro Test Procedure

1 Scope
This document specifies the requirements for pressure testing of MEE piping works.
2 Reference
The document shall be used in conjunction with latest edition of following documents
3 Code and Standard
3.1 ASME B31.3: “Process Piping”

3.2 Where piping is governed by ASME B31.1, ASME B31.1 shall apply to piping instead of ASME B31.3

4 RESPONSIBILITIES
4.1 The hydrostatic test shall be under the supervisions of the Fabrication Supervisor.
The QA/QC department shall be responsible for coordination the hydrostatic test and shall inform
4.2
to Client Representative inspection team as applicable to witness the test.
The QA/QC Engineer or the Project Engineer /Fabrication Engineer shall be responsible for
4.3
preparing the test packages and providing technical assistance.
The QA/QC Inspector shall be responsible for verifying that all hydro testing in accordance with this
4.4
procedure.
5 TESTING EQUIPMENT
5.1 Pump

The hydrostatic test setup shall be provided with a pump which is capable of pressurizing the pipe
spool or sub-assembly under test to full test pressure specified and can readily isolated from the
compartment without disconnecting any essential test line Pressure pulsation of the pump and /or
the test setup shall not exceed 5% of gauge pressure from 50% test pressure to full test pressure.
5.2 Valve
A quick opening valve readily accessible to the pump operator for emergency use during
pressurization. It should be installed in test setup near the pump assembly.
5.3 Pressure Gauge
The test setup for pressure vessels, piping, valves and other miscellaneous shall be performed using
to calibrated pressure gauges with one gauge attached to the highest point of the vessel and
another near the pump. The pressure gauge shall have dials graduated over a range of about 2
times the intended maximum test pressure but in no case less than 1.5 times the test pressure not
more than 4 times that pressure.
5.4 Miscellaneous Equipment
All valves fittings and pipe used in the test setup shall have a maximum full test pressure rating
suitable for the maximum full test pressure. All valves shall be in open position during the test.
6 TEST PREPARATION
Prior to hydrostatic test piping the QC inspector will ensure that all Non-destructive testing,
Destructive testing, visual examination had completed to the codes and client specification
requirement.
7 TEST MEDIA
All hydrostatic tests shall use potable water as a medium unless otherwise directed by the required
specification.
8 PIPING PRESSURIZATION
After completion of the pipe and piping assemblies, (excluding miscellaneous equipment), all piping
shall be removed of stationary block with blind flanges or fittings and prepared for hydrostatic test.
All pipe and piping assemblies which test at the same pressure shall be connecting to each other
and pressurized to the required test pressure, other which had a difference test pressure shall be
tested individually. Test pressure shall not less than 1.5 times the design pressure. Test holding time
for piping shall as per ASME/ANSIB31.3
