Your Call CSWE III – Teacher Resources

Welcome to Your Call

Overview
Your Call is a Teacher-Assisted Distance Learning course for the AMEP. Your Call is e-learning based,
with print and DVD based materials for those AMEP learners without access to the internet, or who
are not computer literate. Both modes of delivery are facilitated by a Distance Learning Teacher.
Your Call is
• based on identified themes and issues relating to settlement in Australia
• aligned to the CSWE curriculum framework at Levels I, II and III
• integrated with Settling In, the AMEP settlement course
• based on the Your Call Distance Learning Syllabus
• underpinned by adult learning principles.

Curriculum
Your Call is designed for students to develop the skills to obtain Certificate l, II and III in Spoken and
Written English (CSWE).

The introduction to the CSWE framework provides details about the modules and learning
outcomes, an overview of each certificate, assessment, institutional planning, language learning and
syllabus design. The Distance Learning Manager will ensure a copy is available for teachers.

Syllabus
The Your Call syllabus is available separately on the Your Call Teacher Resources page on the AMEP
Portal. It includes details of the Settlement themes that support this course.

Content
Content Maps providing details of units and topics, language focus, settlement focus and learning
outcomes are available on pages 4 to 15 of this booklet.

Assessment
Students need to have an informed understanding of the CSWE requirements. The Distance Learning
Manager can advise on resources available to assist with this.

Preparation for assessment

Teacher feedback on activities from the unit and the Sendback practice tasks will give students
understanding of their performance of learning outcome criteria. Students can submit their first
draft to the teacher for any additions or corrections. They re-write and submit their finished version
for marking. Teachers and students then discuss and determine readiness for assessment of learning
outcomes.

Assessment processes
Reading and writing assessment tasks are sent to the student after feedback and discussion of
practice tasks.
Assessment for spoken and listening learning outcomes will be done over the phone, either in the
phone lesson relating to the Sendback if the student is ready or after feedback and further practice.

Assessment tasks
Assessment tasks are not provided with Your Call. Teachers can access appropriate tasks from the
AMEP Assessment Task Bank http://www.neas.org.au/amep/atb.php and from college resources.
The Distance Learning Manager will provide a username and password.

Using the Your Call materials

Key Information
The materials are packaged into 11 parts at CSWE I level and 12 parts at CSWE II and III levels. Each
part is based on a settlement theme consisting of a number of units and topics. The themes match
the Settlement course and include additional settlement-oriented themes of interest and relevance
to AMEP learners. In the Traditional mode each of these parts is produced as a book.

Core Instructions
The Help and FAQ section of the Portal provide information on how to use Your Call. The Distance
Learning Manager can arrange further support and guidance on how to use the Online and
Traditional materials.

Bilingual Support
Multilingual support is available for Your Call Preliminary and Settling In. The Distance Learning
Manager can advise teachers of any multilingual resources and support relevant to Your Call Levels 1
to 3.
