I wish to apply for the position of School Support Assistant

I have been employed by Specsavers since 2003 starting as an Optical Assistant and now in
my current position of Store Administrator. Working closely with Store Directors, Opticians,
Optical Assistants dealing with the day to day operations of the business.

Deadlines are important in this business and have learned to prioritise the tasks.

I have been involved in the past with School Visits along with the Optician to let the children
understand how importance of eye care and what happens in the Opticians Room. We
included work sheets for the class, word searches and allowing the children to try on some
glasses.

For part of my role, I am involved in recruiting Pre Registration Optometrists, inviting them
for interviews, some have been from overseas so I need to ensure they have the correct visa
for working in the UK. I am their first port of call when they arrive in Scotland and even
helped them get somewhere to live for the 18 months they will be here. I am known as their
Scottish Mum.

I can work both independently and as part of a team.

I qualified as a Nursery Nurse back in 1989 gaining my SCNNEB qualification. The jobs were
very few & far between, I did a few months of supply work but ended up gaining
employment elsewhere.
I have always wanted to return to the Education Sector and find now is the right time for me
and my family.

I have 2 daughters 17 & 13 years old. Both girls have been diagnosed with ASD in different
levels and have helped them both over the last few years come to terms on how their brain
functions, both still struggle but are learning how to deal with daily challenges. Everyday is
different.

I know I can bring so much to the position of Support Assistant albeit that I’ve been away
from working in the education environment for many years, My administration experience,
empathy, humour and just being able to help both staff and children in school would be of
great benefit.

YOURS SINCERELY
