MATERIAL PROCESSING

METAL FORMING
TECHNIQUE
Metal Forming
Large set of manufacturing processes in
which the material is formed plastically to
take the shape of the di geometry. The
tools used for such deformation are called
die, punch, etc. depending on the type of
process.
Plastic deformation: Stresses beyond yield
strength of the workpiece material is
required
General classification of metal forming processes
Bulk deformation is the metal forming operation
where a significant change in shape occurs via
plastic deformation in metallic parts. Usually, the
initial shapes of the material can be cylindrical
bars, billets, rectangular billets, slabs, etc.

Sheet metal forming is a process

where pieces of sheet metal are
modified to its geometry rather than
removing any materials. The applied
process generates a force that
stresses the material to deform.
