EcoStruxure Building Operation 2.0

EcoBuilding Training Academy
Overview

Backup of EcoStruxure Servers:

• Historical database
• Configuration Database

Backup and restore capabilities preserve both

configuration and historical data on an as-needed
or periodic basis.

EcoStruxure server data can be restored after

damage or loss due to hardware or software
failures, security threats, or application testing.
Backup types

Configuration only
• Useful for new installations
• Includes points and objects such as, values,
alarms, trends, programs, graphics, and
custom object type data

All data
• Useful for existing systems
• Includes configuration database and
historical database

Cold-start retained variables in both;

Changes to variable settings are not

Backup Sets

The local backup set for an Enterprise Server or Automation

Server is stored under a Local folder in the Backup sets
folder

Automation Server stores only one backup set at a time

• Each new backup operation overwrites the previous backup
set

Enterprise Server store local and Automation Servers backup

sets
• Multiple Automaton Server backup sets can be stored on the
Enterprise Server
Scheduled Backup

Manually generated
• Possible to add a comment for identification
Multiple servers can be backed up in one operation
across the network
Alarm is generated if a backup fails
EcoStruxure Building Operation automatically backs up
all data on an Automation Server or Enterprise
Server every Sunday at 01:00 (DEFAULT)
Automatic Purge Possible via Backup and Restore
Manager
Backup Storage and Protection
Servers store backup sets in their local directory.
• By design, the average user may not easily locate these backup directories
using a Windows-based file system.
Saving a backup set to a storage location is a two-step process
• Save the backup set to WorkStation.
• Copy the backup set from WorkStation to another storage location on your
network.
Backup Set Name
• Unique file name and extension based on the Date-Time stamp
(ex: Site Server 1_20180114-022908.xbk) ; (Site X = prefix)
• DO NOT RENAME A BACKUP SET
• Create a uniquely named directory in which to
store your saved backup sets for a particular server.
Restore

• Possible to revert back to a previous

snapshot of the server data despite any
configuration changes made since the
last backup.
• Designed to be a manual rather than an
automatic process to avoid the accidental
overwriting of current server data.

• Displays only the backup files that apply

to the selected server.

• Likely necessary to import Backup Sets

from network storage location
Restore (cont.)

• The server name is part of the restore data.

• If you rename a server after a backup, a restore process

will revert back to the previous server name

• Configuring the new server to match the name and the

network settings of the replaced server enables the system
to identify this server when online.
