Precautions to be Taken while Handling Tools

• Concentrate on the job while working with tools.

• Do not work with damaged tools.
• Do not keep sharp tools in the pocket.
• Do not use power tools near water, inflammable gas, oil.
• Check power tools before using them for broken plug or poor condition
of the cord.
• Follow the supervisor's instructions.
• Report promptly to supervisor for any damaged tool.

Board and Its Types
 Gypsum Board

It consists of a gypsum plaster core treated with special additives encased in

and firmly bonded to strong durable paper liners to form a
rectangular board.
Types Of Gypsum Board

Plain Gypsum Board

Characteristic:
Standard Board with gypsum core and paper liner.

Application:
It can be used for wall lining, ceiling, for the construction of partitions
and cavity barriers, beam and column encasement.

Board Color:
Ivory paper on face side and brown paper on reverse side.

Edge Tape: Blue and White

Dura line Gypsum Board
Characteristic:
Gypsum plasterboard with high density core with glass fibre and other
additives

Application:
It is used in high impact areas where robustness and durability is
required.
Board Color:
Yellow paper on face side and brown paper on reverse side.

Edge Tape: Yellow and White

Sound Block Gypsum Board
Characteristic:
Gypsum plasterboard with high density aerated gypsum core with glass
fibre and other additives

Application:
It is designed to use in areas where greater levels of sound insulation
are required..
Board Color:
Blue paper on face side and green paper on reverse side

Edge Tape Blue and White

Fire Line Board Gypsum Board
Characteristic:
Gypsum Plasterboard glass fibers and fire retarder additives

Application:
It is used in fire wall and ceiling to provide higher fire protection. It is
also used for protection to structural steel beams and column.

Pink paper on face side and brown paper on reverse side

FRMR Gypsum Board
Characteristic:
Gypsum plasterboard with glass fibers and fire retardant additives plus
water repellant additives

Application:
It is designed for use in areas where fire resistance and moisture
resistance is required like shaft wall.

Step by step Procedure- Preparatory work
• Read and understand the working drawing to carry out
false ceiling work

• Gather and ensure that you have enough quantity of tools and
equipment for false ceiling work.

• Check the clearance for carrying out the false ceiling work.
(a minimum of 100mm clearance between the new ceiling and the
ceiling it is . Remember, if lights are installed into the ceiling for
which additional clearance will be needed)

• Check the available materials for false ceiling work.

• Make sure of boards are measured accurately as per

specifications using the correct tools
Step by step Procedure- Preparatory work

• Ensure that the board is cut as per the required dimension.

• Make sure that markings are done for ceiling brackets and
perimeter as per working drawing

• If there is any deviation in levels, bring it to the

supervisor's notice

• Ensure that the ladders or scaffolding is safely erected to carry

out the false ceiling work

• Make sure of starting and end point of false ceiling installation

Datum Point & Datum Level

• In construction, a datum point is a known point of

reference on the basis of which further measurements
or analysis is carried out.

• A datum level is a leveled position on the wall surface

from where all the rest of the grid points are located
and transferred.

• The point can be based on the finished floor level, an

existing building or a benchmark.

• Below is a figure representing the datum line on the

wall which will be further checked using a right angle

Levelling And Marking For Perimeter
• Collect leveling and marking tools to carry out leveling and marking for
false ceiling work.

• Check for damage of tools and equipment prior to use.

• Confirm heights or levels to be transferred from sketches through

• Assemble the leveling device accurately.

• Record heights or level and then transfer data points.

• Transfer the specified levels on the wall as per the drawing

• Mark the location of ceiling brackets/perimeter for false ceiling works

• Inform supervisor about the deviation of levels, if any.
