NARRATIVE REPORT IN POULTRY PRODUCTION

1. REPORT FROM CONCEPTUAL TO STRUCTURAL

The size of my poultry house is 30 cm x 65 cm. The measurement I use is intended
to raise five heads of broiler chickens. Hence, the materials that I used in building my
poultry house are cocolumbers for the base and posts, bamboo slats for the door
and support for the flooring, green plastic mesh/wires for the entire flooring, cover
and walls. I also used see-through plastic curtains that I adjust depending on the
wind and temperature in our area. The floor style that I chose and implemented for
my broiler house is the “slatted-type”. My reason for choosing this type of flooring is
because, among all the flooring types, only the slatted-type provides both better
ventilation and better waste management. For my lighting and temperature
regulation, I used a 25-watts incandescent bulb to provide my 2-days old chicks
adequate heat and light.
2. DAILY ACTIVITIES (e.g. feeding, cleaning, supplementations, etc.)

DAY 1
DATE & TIME FEEDING WATER SUPPLY SUPPLEMENTATION CLEANING

10/28/2021 Ad libitum 1 liter 1 tsp. Sugar dissolve in Every after

5: 45 p.m. water 30-40 minutes

My 2-years-old chicks arrived at home at 5:45 p.m. of October 28, 2021. Two
hours before their arrival, I already prepared a clean water with a solution of 1 tsp.
of sugar in a 1 liter plastic waterer. Then, I placed it inside the brooding box with a
floor of used newspaper and light. Upon arrival of my five chicks, I reexamine them
to check for some physical abnormalities and weighed their initial weights which
ranges from 43-46 g. after doing that, immediately put them inside the brooding box
and supplied them B-MEG Integra 1000 (chick booster) which I bought from YZG
Feed supply at Pili centro. For the first day up until the third day, I fed them on the
newspaper and I supply it in an unlimited manner. In the case of waste secretion
such as wet feces, I just remove the dirty newspapers and replace them with a new
clean one. Also, I provide them 24/7 lighting by using a 25 watts incandescent bulb
to provide them heat since the temperature during at the end of October until 2 ND
week of December is cold and the chicks’ feathers are not yet fully developed.

11/03/21 Ad libitum 1 liter None Every after 1 hour
During the first week of my chicks, cleaning takes a lot of my time especially on
the first 3 days where I only place their feeds on the surface of the newspapers. In
general, within that seven days, I always make sure that their whole surrounding is
always clean. After the 3rd day, I already used an 8 inches plastic feeder in feeding
my chicks and similar with the first day, I provide them their feeds (chick booster) as
an ad libitum, but I make sure that it is not more than 1/3 full to prevent wastage
and it is always feces-free including their water. If I noticed that their feeds and
water has some droppings, I immediately change them. On their 2 nd day, I
supplemented their water with a Vetracin gold because I have noticed that their
feces is so watery. Also, their lighting within the whole week is 24 hours available.
At the end of their first week, November 3 (Wednesday) at 5 p.m., I weighed them
and their weights already doubled to quadrupled. From their initial weights which
ranges from 43-46 grams, they weighed at the end of the week 100 - 170 grams
which is really positive sign of their growth.

During the first day of week 2 of my broiler chicks, the first thing that I have done
is remove them from their brooding box. I let them be familiarized with their broiler
house. Since their feces is not so watery, I start to stop using Vetracin gold and I just
give them a clean clear water which I check time to time if there is some droppings.
During this week, I just follow the activities I did during the 1 st week. The only change
I did during this week is removing them from their brooding box and removal of
Vetracin to their drinking water. Also, since I removed them from their brooding box,
their wastes was directly separated from them because of the slatted floor. As for
their feeding, I still supply them the feeds (chick booster) as Ad libitum and I still
make sure that it is always free from their feces. As of the lighting, I still provide it 24
hours daily.
At the end of the 2nd week, it was November 10, 2021 at 6:00 p.m., I weighed
them. Their weights during the end of this week ranges from 350 grams to 520
grams.

During this week, I changed their feeds to broiler starter but before giving them, I
make sure that the feeds that they will consume is of the same brand. So, the feeds
that I bought from YZG Feed supply is B-MEG Integra 2000 (Broiler starter). I also
replaced their waterer and feeder with a bigger and longer one to match their
growing appetite. Their lighting also change since I’m already noticing the
development of their feathers. From 24 hours daily, I make their light available only
at 5:00 of the afternoon when the sun is setting until 6:30 or 7:00 in the morning
when the sun has risen. I also learn a new technique to immune them to prevent
from having a sound stress. I let them listen to mild music played on our radio. By
doing so, I also noticed that they are awake most of the time and they are always
eating. As for their feeding and water supply practice, I still follow the practice I have
done in the previous weeks.
At the end of the 3rd week, November 17, 5:30 p.m., the weight of my broiler
chicks were already ranging from 870 grams to 1,160 grams.

The feathers of my broiler chickens including their combs during this week is
completely developed. On this week, they do a lot of stretching, panting and flapping
of their on this week especially during daytime when the weather is hot. That is why
I add one more waterer (waterer I used during the 1 st & 2nd week). I also add one
more feeder to provide them an equal ration of feeds since they already occupies a
lot of space. Still, I don’t use any supplementation since they are all in good
condition. On the last 2 days of their week, I mixed ¼ kg of broiler finisher to 1 kg of
broiler starter and ½ kg of broiler finisher to 1 kg of broiler starter at the last day of
week 4. That practice prepared my broilers in consuming the broiler finisher which is
in pellet form.
At the end of this week, my broilers weighs from 1,500 grams to 1, 950 grams.

At the first day of week 5, I feed my broilers with a full pelleted broiler finisher (B-
MEG Integra 3000). As for the other activities, I followed the processes that I have
done in the week 4. I regularly check the feeders and waterers for some droppings
and immediately replaced it if needed. I provide them light only at nighttime and I
also make sure that their feeds especially their water is always available. Since I have
not used any supplements with antibiotic since week 2, I am very sure that my
broiler chickens does not have any antibiotic residues that can potentially harm
humans or may cause antibiotic resistance.
On the last day of this week, December 1, 5:30 of the afternoon, I weighed my
broiler chickens and their weights are ranging from 1,950 grams to 2,550 grams.

 +10% average sample weight = 44 + 4.4 = 48.4 or 48
 -10% average sample weight = 44 – 4.4 = 39.6 or 40
 Note: weight should weigh not less than 40g and not more than 48g
 Uniformity: 5/5 = 1 x 100 = 100%
 Interpretation: Out of 5 birds, 5 birds weighed not more than 48g and not
less than 40g. Therefore, uniformity is 100% which indicates
high level of uniformity.
