DESIGNING MY DREAM COMPUTER

5 JUNE 2022

1.0 INTRODUCTION

I choose to make my dream computer for special person who has mobility
impairment. The reason why I wanted to make computer for them because my mom is one
of stroke patient, I could see her struggle to write with pen on paper, she used wheelchair a
long time, so with this computer I could change her life. Luckily, she’s getting better now.

A mobility impairment is a disability that affects movement ranging from gross motor
skills, such as walking, to fine motor movement, involving manipulation of objects by hand.
These include but are not limited to amputation, paralysis, cerebral palsy, stroke, multiple
sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, arthritis, and spinal cord injury. Mobility impairments range
from lower body impairments, which may require use of canes, walkers, or wheelchairs, to
upper body impairments that may include limited or no use of the upper extremities and
hands. A mobility impairment may impact, to varying degrees, a student's ability to
manipulate objects, turn pages, write with a pen or pencil, type at a keyboard, or retrieve
research materials.

I wanted to make something useful and precious for them so they can feel special
about their selves. Furthermore, people with mobility impairment are recommended to use
computers with speech input, morse code, and alternative keyboards. They can use a
computer might be helpful to them. Many adaptive computer products allow hands-free
computing.

Adaptive technology can allow a person with a mobility impairment to use all of the
capabilities of a computer. While it is helpful to recognize the specific limitations of an
individual, it is more important to focus on the task to be completed and how his abilities,
perhaps assisted with technology, can be used to accomplish the goal or task. Work closely
with the person with a mobility impairment to first determine what he needs or desires to
accomplish by using a computer. Specific accommodations can then be explored that
provide access to software or to a specific device, such as a keyboard or mouse.

1.1 SPECIFICATION

The specific need for assistive technology is unique to the individual. It is easier for disabled
people to used it. The computing experience is made up of interactions with hardware and
software. The hardware is all the tangible computer equipment, such as the body of your
laptop containing the hard drive, keyboard, and touchpad for pointing at and clicking on
items onscreen. The software is what makes the hardware work or lets you get things done,
such as writing documents with Microsoft Word. The hardware on your laptop consists of a
central processing unit (CPU), which is the very small, very high-tech semiconductor chip
(integrated circuit) that acts as the brains of your computer. The CPU is stored in your laptop
along with the other nuts and bolts of your computer. A monitor, which displays images on its
screen similar to the way your TV screen displays programs. Your computer monitor shows
you, for example, the Microsoft Windows 8.1 Desktop, a video you watch at an online
entertainment site, or a document in a software program. Today, some laptops sport
touchscreen monitors, which allow you to use your finger on the screen to provide input to
the computer. A keyboard, which is similar to a type write r keyboard. In addition to typing
words and numbers, you can use a keyboard to give the computer commands such as
selecting text or objects, copying, and pasting.

Secondly, the software that also known as programs is installed on our laptop hard drive,
which resides in the laptop casing. Here are a few basics about software and the software
are used to get your work done, run entertainment programs, and browse the Internet. For
example, quicken is a financial-management program we can use to balance your check
book or keep track of your home inventory for insurance purposes. Some programs come
preinstalled on the laptop or we as a graphic design students can buy and install other
programs as Anis need them. . Software programs called utilities exist to keep your laptop in
shape. An antivirus program is an example of a utility used to spot and erase computer
viruses from your system. Your operating system (such as Windows 8.1) also includes some
utilities, such as Disk Clean up to free up wasted space on your hard drive.

I also recommended for people with mobility impairment to use a desktop instead of laptop
or other mobile devices. Desktop computers have more power and more features. Desktop
computers are easier, and less expensive, to upgrade. Desktop computers are generally less
expensive overall and offer a better overall value. Desktop computers have a more
comfortable keyboard and a much easier to use mouse.

1.2 OBJECTIVE
This task has objective to help people with mobility impairment to get a suitable computer for
them. The computer must have the element of the best computer in processing and easy to
use it. The Computer and Information Processing (CSC 134) courses that exposed me on
the essentials of computing and preparing and exposes the fundamental concepts in manner
that emphasis their important from the user’s point view, will help me in determined the
system software of that computer for them. Moreover, in the modern time there are many
types of computers on the marketplaces in our country. It is because the computer is very
important in our technology nowadays.

2.0 INPUT DEVICES

2.1 KEYBOARD ACCESS

The keyboard can be the biggest obstacle to computing for a person with a mobility
impairment. Fortunately, those who lack the dexterity or range of motion necessary to
operate a standard keyboard have a wide range of options from which to choose. Pointers
can be held in the mouth or mounted to a hat or headgear and used to press keys on a
standard keyboard. Repositioning the keyboard to the floor can allow someone to use his
feet instead of his hands for typing.

A keyguard is a plastic or metal shield that fits over a standard keyboard. Holes are drilled
into the guard to help an individual with poor dexterity or hand control press only the desired
key without inadvertently pressing other keys. Alternative keyboards can be considered for a
person who cannot effectively operate a regular keyboard despite changing settings or using
a keyguard. For people who have limited range of motion, a mini keyboard (Tash) may be
considered. If a person has good range of motion and poor dexterity, a keyboard with extra-
large keys (e.g., IntelliTools) can offer a good solution.

In my research there are few brands of keyboard that can be used by disables people in
Malaysia.

extra-large key legends for greater visibility and efficiency. The keyboard is the perfect
solution for visual assistance. Manufactured using high-quality keys and housing for
durability and comfort. With letter characters larger than usual and command keys in a larger
bolder font, these high-contrast keys can really help those who have trouble seeing
keyboards. The price of this keyboard is RM 235.

dependable speed and accuracy. Built-in shortcuts include dedicated keys for Office 365,
emojis, search, media controls, and more. A dedicated numeric pad makes it quick and easy
to input numbers. The price of this keyboard is RM164.

2.2 SPEECH RECOGNITION

Speech recognition products may provide an appropriate input tool for individuals with a
wide range of disabilities. Speech recognition software converts words spoken into a
microphone into machine-readable format. The user speaks into the microphone either with
pauses between words (discrete speech) or in a normal talking manner (continuous speech).
The discrete speech system, although slower, allows the user to identify errors as they
occur. In continuous speech systems, corrections are made after the fact. Speech
recognition technology requires that the user have moderately good reading comprehension
in order to correct the program's text output. Voice and breath stamina should also be a
consideration when evaluating speech recognition as an input option. Speech input is an
option for speaking individuals with disabilities. Speech recognition systems allow users to
control computers by speaking words and letters. Although some systems recognize limited
commands from any clear voice, the most efficient systems are "trained" to recognize the
individual speech pattern of one specific user.

3.1 READING SYSTEMS

An individual who has a difficult time holding printed material or turning pages may benefit
from a reading system. These systems are typically made up of hardware (scanner,
computer, monitor, and sound card), Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software, and a
reading and filing program. The system provides an alternative to reading printed text. Hard
copy text is placed on the scanner where it is converted into a digital image. The image is
then converted to a text file, making the characters recognizable by the computer. The
computer can then read the words back using a speech synthesizer and simultaneously
present the words on screen. Use of such a system may require assistance, since a
disability that limits manipulation of a book may also preclude independent use of a scanner.

3.2 MONITOR
A monitor is a piece of computer hardware that displays the video and graphics information
generated by a connected computer through the computer's video card.

Monitors are similar to TVs but usually display information at a much higher resolution. Also
unlike televisions, monitors typically sit atop a desk rather than being mounted on a wall. A
monitor is sometimes referred to as a screen, display, video display, video display terminal,
video display unit, or video screen.

Figure 7 MOTHERBOARD

1. Motherboard
The motherboard is the main internal hardware component of the system unit. This board is
called the "motherboard" because it has all the connectors that connect to the other
hardware components of the computer system. This means that all input and output (I/O)
devices have their connectors on the motherboard.

Since the CPU (especially high-speed CPU) generates a lot of heat during operation, it has a
socket for fixing the central processing unit (CPU) or the processor with a heat sink and fan.
It also has a main memory slot, a video or graphics card slot, and a backup battery. HP
desktop computer motherboard price is RM 250.

2. CPU or Processor
The CPU is the hardware component responsible for all operations performed in the
computer system, which is why most computer users call it the brain of the computer, which
is fixed on the motherboard through a slot.

The CPU or processor has two main components, namely the control unit (CU) and the
arithmetic logic unit (ALU). CU fetches instructions from memory and executes them to
control input and output devices, while ALU performs arithmetic and logic processing. The
speed of the processor is measured in megahertz (MHz) or gigahertz (GHz). HP desktop
CPU price is RM 1500.

Figure 9 RAM

3. RAM
RAM is the main memory of a computer system, and its main function is to temporarily store
data. Based on the fact that the data is accessed randomly (in no particular order), it allows
the CPU to easily access the data. It can also speed up the operation of the computer
because it allows random access to data.

The larger the RAM, the faster the CPU can access data. RAM is volatile, which means it
works or stores data while the computer is still running, and loses all data when the
computer is shut down. RAM, CPU, and hard disk are the main sources of computer speed.
A computer can use multiple RAMs, depending on the user's preference, but limited by the
number of memory slots on the motherboard. HP desktop RAM price is RM180.

Figure 10 HARD DRIVE

4. Hard Drive
The main storage device of a computer system is a hard disk or hard disk drive. Unlike RAM,
which temporarily stores data, the main function of a hard drive is to permanently store
information, files, and other documents, and also allows data to be retrieved, but it is non-
volatile (data will not be lost when the computer is shut down).

The operating system and application software (apps) are installed on the hard drive. The
amount of data that a hard drive can hold depends on its capacity.

Most modern system units or chassis can contain two hard drives, one of which can be used
as a "primary" (primary) hard drive; one for installing the operating system, and the other as
a "slave" (secondary) hard drive; you can combine documents and other files are stored on
which files and other files to avoid overloading the main hard drive to avoid slowing down the
system. The secondary hard drive can also be used as a backup for damage to the primary
hard drive. Hp desktop hard drive price is RM 55.

To build a special computer for a special person it is not easy. There are a lot of things that
we need to figure it out. I wanted to make everything seems easier for them so when they
used it, they will know how the computer is progress, and they don’t have to think about the
error. So, I made this computer for them.
