Additional Questions

1) A 20.00 mL aliquot of 2.88 × 10-2 M Pb(NO3)2 was titrated at pH 10 with a 3.84 × 10-2
M EDTA solution.
Data: KPbY2- = 1.1 x 1018, Y4- = 0.410
Calculate the pPb2+ at the following points in the titration:
Before the addition of any titrant
After the addition of 10.00mL of titrant
At equivalence point
After the addition of 35.00mL of titrant

2) An EDTA titration was used to quantify the concentration of Cu2+ in powdered milk.
The titrant was made by dissolving 2.2456 g of EDTA (MM 292.24 g mol-1) in 100 mL
distilled water.
A sample of powdered milk (3.568 g) was dissolved in 5 mL of a 15% acidic solution
and diluted to 200 mL. Excess EDTA (35 mL) was added to a 25 mL aliquot of the
sample. This was then titrated with 12.46 mL standardised 0.06452 M Cu solution.
Calculate the %(m/m) Cu in the sample.

3) The Be3+ in an alloy sample is measured by digesting 1.234 g of the powdered sample
in a small volume of HNO3 (~3mL) and water (50 ml). A 0.23 M solution of (NH4)2HPO4
is then added dropwise to the sample, precipitating NH4BePO4. When the reaction is
complete, the sample is dried in an oven at 110° C and then ignited at high temperature
to form 0.245 g of Be2P2O7. Calculate the %(m/m) Be3+ in the alloy.

4) A 23.2 sample of an organic compound containing carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen was
burned in excess oxygen and yielded 52.8 g of CO2 and 21.6 g of water. Determine
the empirical formula of the compound.
