LESSON PLAN ON DISASTER READINESS AND RISK REDUCTION GRADE 11

Competency: DRR 11/12-Ia-b-6


Identify areas/locations exposed to hazards that may lead to disasters
Time Frame: 1 hour

I. Objectives: At the end of the class, the learners are expected to:
A. classify disaster from the different perspectives (physical, psychological, socio-
cultural, economic, political and biological); and
B. suggest ways to mitigate these disasters.

II. Subject Matter: Different perspective of disasters


A. Concepts:
Disaster is a sudden event that causes great damage, loss, destruction
and devastation to life and property. The damage caused by disasters is
immeasurable and influences the physical, psychological, socio-cultural,
economic, political and biological aspects.

B. Materials:
 laptop and projector,
 cartolina, manila paper and marking pen,
 video clip and powerpoint presentation

C. Process Skills:
observation, communication, inference, critical thinking, collaboration, analysis

E. Values Integration:
Disasters may happen anytime. The result of disasters may be
unexpected. Awareness and preparedness before, during and after the disaster
must be adopted and adapted.

III.Learning Tasks:
A. Engagement
 Situation Analysis
The students will be grouped. Each group will be given 1 situation that
depicts disaster. The group members will have a brainstorming and categorize
the picture on disaster is whether the disaster is on the perspective of physical,
psychological, socio-cultural, economic, political and biological. The group will
share their answer to the class.
Situation A: The house is on fire.
Situation B: A feud occurred between the purok president and treasurer.
Situation C: Someone is bullied because of his dialect spoken.
Situation D: There is a widespread of a certain disease in a barangay.
Situation E: A farmland is infested with pests.
Situation F: The student failed in the class because of a family problem.

B. Exploration
 Reporting
A group representative will present to the class their output.

C. Explanation
 Picture analysis with the use of P-O-E tool
The teacher will give a certain picture of disaster. The students will fill in
the table below. The students will predict the picture according to its perspective
of disaster, write their observation about the picture and explain their answers.

D. Elaboration
 Video Presentation
The teacher will show 3 video clips that show 3 perspectives of disaster.
After showing the video, the students will answer the following questions:
1. What have you observed on the videos being presented? What does it
show?
2. Do disasters affect us as a person? In what way?
3. What ways can you suggest to mitigate these disasters?

Complete the graphic organizer.
