Exercise (8)

30 k
(1) Determine the reactions and draw the 3 k/ft
shear and bending moment diagrams for
the beam shown in the figure using the
method of consistent deformations.
Select the reaction moment at the fixed
support to be the redundant.
100 k 100 k
(2) Determine the reactions and draw the
shear and bending moment diagrams for
the beam shown in the figure using the
method of consistent deformations.
Select the reaction at the interior
support to be the redundant.
100 N
(3) Determine the deflection at the end ‫ ܤ‬of
the clamped A-36 steel strip. The spring
has a stiffness of ݇ = 4 N/mm. The strip k = 4 N/mm
is 5 mm wide and 10 mm high. Also,
draw the shear and moment diagrams
for the strip.
(4) Determine the reactions at support ‫ܥ‬. ‫ܫܧ‬
is constant for both beams.

(5) Determine the reactions and draw the 6 k/ft

shear and bending moment diagrams for
the beam shown in the figure for the
loading shown and the support
settlements of 1⁄4 in. at ‫ܣ‬, 1 in. at ‫ܤ‬,
and 3⁄4 in. at ‫ܥ‬. Use the method of
consistent deformations.
4 k/ft
(6) Determine the reactions and draw the 2 k/ft
shear and bending moment diagrams for
the structure shown in the figure using
the method of consistent deformations.
80 k
(7) Determine the reactions and draw the 5 k/ft
shear and bending moment diagrams for
the structure shown in the figure using
the method of consistent deformations.
Select the bending moments at the
interior supports to be the redundants.
