TRAINING PROPOSAL ON DISTRICT INSET AND RE-ORIENTATION

ON THE UTILIZATION AND ADMINISTRATION OF EGRA AND PHIL-IRI

I. TRAINING/ PROGRAM TITLE

District Inset and Re-orientation on the Utilization and Administration of EGRA

and Phil-IRI.

II. INTRODUCTION/RATIONALE

In line with the Department’s Basic Education Agenda which is to make every
child a reader at his/her grade level with its flagship program or “ECARP”, the
Department of Education Cotabato Division is strengthening its reading program
through the implementation of Project RISE- “Reading Intervention to Strengthen
Education” a division-wide reading program- an initiative to combat reading difficulty
among the learners.

The Program will develop in Filipino children literacy skills and attitudes which will
contribute to lifelong learning. More specifically, it aims to improve reading skills of
learners especially Kinder to Grade 3 pupils, following K to 12 Basic Education
Curriculum, and to establish a sustainable and cost-effective professional development
system for teachers.

However, the Department of education would like to see to it that every Filipino
learner from Kinder to Grade Twelve will be given full attention, therefore the teachers
are seeking attention on how they could improve further their teaching strategies
specially in reading. In this case, Matalam Central District will conduct a one-day “Re-
orientation on the utilization and administartion of EGRA and PHIL-IRI” to enhance the
knowledge and skills of reading teachers on the mentioned programs.

Hence, Mrs. Cherry Ann B. Osumo, Master Teacher 2 of Matalam Central

Elementary School, a division trained reading teacher and a Gawad SIKHAY recipient
and Mr. Zacaria L. Kandalayag, TIC of Rajah Sumonsang Dilangalen Elementary
School ES and District Reading Coordinator will be the resource speakers of the 1-day
