Definition of Terms

Proposed Title/Topic The Effects of Social Media to the Academic Performance of FSUU BP. Pueblos Senior
High School Students.

Terms defined conceptually:

Social media: Refers to internet-based applications and platforms that enable users to create, share, or
exchange content and engage in social networking.

Academic performance: Refers to the level of achievement that a student has attained in their academic
pursuits, typically measured by grades, test scores, and other academic indicators.

Students: Refers to the individuals who are enrolled in FSUU BP. Pueblos Senior High School and are the
subjects of the study.

Online distractions: Refers to any activities or factors that may divert a student's attention away from their
academic studies, including but not limited to social media use.

Grade point average (GPA): Refers to a numerical calculation of a student's overall academic performance,
based on the grades they have earned in their courses.

Study habits: Refers to the behaviors and strategies that students use to learn and prepare for academic tasks,
including but not limited to time management, note-taking, and test preparation.

Time management: Refers to the process of allocating and prioritizing one's time effectively in order to
achieve academic or personal goals.
Academic achievement: Refers to the degree of success that a student has attained in their academic pursuits,
typically measured by grades, test scores, and other academic indicators.

Terms defined operationally:

Social media use: In this study, social media use will be operationalized as the self-reported amount of time
that students spend on social media platforms, the types of activities they engage in on social media, and the
frequency of their social media use, measured using a survey.

Academic performance: In this study, academic performance will be operationalized as the students'
cumulative grade point average (GPA) over the most recent academic term, obtained from academic records
provided by the school.

Online distractions: In this study, online distractions will be operationalized as any activities or factors that
may divert a student's attention away from their academic studies, including social media use, and will be
measured using a self-reported survey.

Study habits: In this study, study habits will be operationalized as the self-reported behaviors and strategies
that students use to learn and prepare for academic tasks, including time management, note-taking, and test
preparation, measured using a survey.

Time management: In this study, time management will be operationalized as the self-reported process of
allocating and prioritizing one's time effectively in order to achieve academic or personal goals, measured
using a survey.

Academic achievement: In this study, academic achievement will be operationalized as the students' self-
reported degree of success in their academic pursuits, typically measured by grades, test scores, and other
academic indicators, measured using a survey.
