SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 8

CONTENT STANDARD:Demonstrate understanding of the one-way flow of energy and the cycling of
materials in an ecosystem.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learners should be able to make a poster comparing food choices
on the trophic levels.

COMPETENCIES/OBJECTIVES: Describe the transfer of energy through the trophic level.

CONTENT/TOPIC: Transfer of Energy Through Trophic Level

LEARNING RESOURCES: L.M. 273-277

T.G. 200-202
PROCEDURE:
A: Review/ Presentation
*Start the lesson by singing a short song entitled GOD MADE THEM ALL (The teacher sing it
first than later on the students will join in singing and do the action) Ask the the students to
identify the different living things/ organisms mentioned on the song.

Divide the class into two Groups

Have each group read an article about Monfort bat Cave. Let them identify what are the
organisms found in the surrounding area of Monfort bat cave. Let them list in the given table.

TABLE 1
Plants Animals

B: Establishing the Purpose of the Lesson

From their answer on the table ask what group of organism are considered as producers.
* What part of the durian trees and other trees served as food for the bats?
* The population of cave- dwelling bats is declining because they are being eaten by other
0rganisms. What are these organisms that feed on bats?

C: Presenting Example/Instances of the New Lesson

Let each group divide each organisms into the following categories as shown in the table below.

TABLE 2
Producers First Order Consumer Second Order Consumer

D: Discussing New Concepts & Practicing New Skills #1

( Present a short video showing a food chain)
Why plants are considered producers?

E: Developing Mastery:
Without a producer, will consumers stay alive? Why
Without decomposers, will producers stay alive? Why?

E: Generalization/Abstraction:
You have just analyzed the transfer of energy by categorizing the organisms according to
their trophic level, in your own words, describe a food chain.

F: Evaluation:
Based on table 2, construct a food chain with at least 3 organisms representing the producer,
first order consumer, and second order consumer.
