The Art Education department is happy to announce its first national event ORCHIDS SUPER
DANCER “Solo Dance Competition” for Grades III-X

The Event

Orchids Super Dancer Competition

Movement is an integral part of the Art Education curriculum. Students are introduced to utilising fine
and gross motor skills, critical thinking, researching different forms and concepts and exploring their
bodies and surroundings.

The objective of this competition is to ensure

● Students develop confidence and put their best foot forward.
● Students get to explore their creativity with and beyond the curriculum.
● Helps to assess themselves in their strengths and weaknesses.

Zonal round:

● One best dancer from grade 3 to 10 each will represent their schools for the Inter Orchids
Zonal round. i.e., in all 8 students will represent their branch for the zonal round.

Selection process for Zonal round

● Students will be selected during the ongoing Dance class & practice will be given for the
selected students.
● Intra Dance competition for the selected students will be conducted on 10th November, 2022
(Thursday) in school premises .
● Teacher will inform the students about the competition and the criteria of selection (use of
creativity, performance skills and dance quality).
● One best dancer from each grade will be chosen by the teacher in consultation with the
COD/Principal.
● Once the students are selected, they have to be prepared for zonals which will be conducted
in one of the Orchids branches (refer to schedule and table below).
● Students have to come dressed up with their respective costumes from home for zonals.
● Below are the themes on which the students need to prepare themselves for zonals.
● Dance performance time limit- Min 1.5 to 2 min max. It should not exceed more than 2

● Zonals will be considered as semi-finals and Nationals will be considered as finals.

Themes for the zonal competition:

● Grade 3 and 4: Festivity.
● Grade 5 and 6: Western dance forms on patriotic songs.
● Grade 7 and 8: Classical and folk forms of India.
● Grade 9 and 10: Open-Style.

Group distribution
● Orchids schools are divided into 5 groups based on the location.
● Students will be informed about the details of their groups.
● Zonal rounds for groups 1, 2, 3 and 4 will be offline.
● Zonal rounds for group 5 will be online.

Duration:

● The duration of the competition will be based on the number of participant schools but will
not exceed 5.5 hours + travel time + snack time
● Students will assemble at their home branch first, and then they will be together for zonal.
● Further details will be shared a week prior to the competition.
