Engagement Of Physical Educations and Its Affect To The Mental Health Of The 2nd Year College

Students At Batangas State University

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The result of this study would be beneficial primarily to:

Students, with the result of the study, this study will help to develop the interest and performance of the
students towards Physical Education and to be more knowledgeable about mental disease that grows as
awareness of the condition rises.

Parents, who are directly interested in their children's education consider both academic success and
extracurricular activities. This study will also help the parents in their huge role in supporting their child’s
mental well-being.

School, the study can help the institution to have a more effective learning environment for the students
and to also improve the ability to promote positive mental health by building self-confidence and self-
esteem of the students.

Teachers, this study will serves as an academic reference of the teachers about the effect of Physical
Education in the Mental Health of the students and the result of the investigation can help the teacher to
have a more effective teaching learning process with the students.

Future researchers, the findings may serve as a reference for other researchers who will conduct the
same area of investigation. This will also contribute to a more complex study that will be conducted by
any future researcher.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION

The study deals with the effect of Physical Education on the Mental Health of students. It is essential that
children are taught about the importance of mental health, how to recognize signs of poor mental
health, and how to seek out assistance for any mental health challenges.

The respondents of the study are the 2nd year college students of Batangas State University located at
Rizal Avenue Extension, 4200 Batangas, City. The respondents-related factors considered in this study are
age and gender.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

Engagement - signifies that students are focusing their attention and effort on a certain task or activity at
the time. In the classroom, the term 'engagement' is typically used to refer to the level of students'
active involvement in a learning process.
Physical Education - is a crucial component of any educational program that aims to maximize a person's
physical, mental, social, emotional, and spiritual growth through whole body motions during the
execution of carefully chosen physical activities.

Affect – A subjective feeling experienced brought on by a thought or other stimuli; a mood or emotion,
especially as shown by outward bodily manifestations

Mental Health - Our emotional, psychological, and social well-being are all parts of our mental health. It
influences our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Additionally, it influences how we respond to stress,
interact with people, and make good decisions.

Mental Illness - A wide variety of mental health conditions—disorders that impact your emotions,
thinking, and behavior—are referred to as mental illnesses, sometimes known as mental health
disorders. Depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders, and compulsive behaviors are a
few examples of mental illnesses.

Positive Affect - It indicates that the cumulative impacts of an option are anticipated to raise the
resource's status in comparison to where it is now because of past, present, and reasonably foreseen
future activities.

Negative Affect - Feelings of emotional anguish are a general definition of negative affect. More
precisely, it is a construct that is characterized by the similarities and differences among negative
emotions including impatience, melancholy, guilt, fear, rage, and fury.
