SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETY

SUMMARY/ANALYSIS CHAPTER 2 LESSON 1

This lesson aims to identify several concepts of human flourishing, assess the growth of
the scientific method and the validity of science, and analyze human flourishing in relation to
scientific and technological advancement. Aristotle's phrase for the peak of happiness,
eudaimonia, has sometimes been translated as "human flourishing." The west is more
concerned with the individual, whereas the east is more concerned with the community. As the
good is naturally tied to the truth, the final goals of science and technology and human
flourishing are related. According to Verification Theory, a discipline is scientific if it can be
validated or interpreted in the event that an alternative hypothesis is accepted.

Falsification Theory encourages study to find whether theories can withstand the test of
falsification. Science as a Social Endeavor is a new school of thought that investigates the
social dimension of science and efficiently uses technology to serve society. It is not the only
discipline that can create outcomes, such as religion, luck, and human randomness, and it is not
completely failsafe. Science high schools in the Philippines provide intensive training for pupils
who want to seek high-paying jobs and a prosperous career. A true eudaimon understands that
flourishing necessitates excellence in all aspects.
