Primary Source Research Project

Outline: My format for this project will be diary entries for every step of her life. I will be

including photos and sketches in a newspaper format showcasing step by step her life story. It

would most likely be a diary entry on the left with an image or sketch describing/summarizing

that diary entry. For my introduction for this project, I will briefly introduce Susie Winston Bain

and background information and experiences she faced. My overall magazine styled presentation

would be old fashioned style, mainly black and white and old newspaper style themed. I plan to

either use photoshop or another graphic design template editing software to help me style

everything correctly.

A rough outline for a diary entry would be for example, her childhood. I would provide a date

and describe in context the events surrounding this time period of her life. I would include

feelings, emotions, and thoughts Susie would be feeling during this time. I would have photos

supporting this diary entry on the side.

Another outline for a diary entry would be her introduction to WASP. I would provide the date as

well and describe her life experiences during this time from her point of view. I would once

again provide feelings, emotions, and thoughts that she would be feeling during this time of her

life.
I would emphasize her WASP career as it was the main focus in her life. I would address it by

having a “WASP career highlight” section embedded in my diary newspaper formatted project. I

would have this part standing out in the newspaper section.

I would also include a section only dedicated to photos that emphasize important parts of Susie’s

story. Every photo would have a description of what the photo represents in her life.

I would consider adding a timeline as well that lets the readers easily see what she achieved and

accomplished in her lifetime as well. The timeline would be on the bottom of the front page. I’m

not sure how I would design it but I would probably use some sort of template.

Headline: bold, large font to grab attention

Byline: the name of the writer who wrote the article Lead: a catchy, attention-grabbing sentence

that summarizes the article

Citations: For my citations, I will not be using in-text citations but the citations at the end of my

newspaper. This will give a more natural feel to the newspaper as normal newspapers do not

have in text citations.
