Lesson Plan in Mathematics 4

Third Quarter

I. Objectives
a. Describes and illustrates different angles (right, acute, and obtuse) using models
b. Describes and illustrates different angles through creative art works
II. Subject Matter
Subject Matter: Different Kinds of Angles
Materials: PowerPoint (Video Lesson)
References: K to 12 Grade 4 Curriculum Guide
LM Math Grade 4 pages 157 – 158
III. Instructional Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities
Review
Have a drill on identifying the different kinds of lines. Identify the following lines
as parallel lines, intersecting lines or perpendicular lines.
1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

B. Motivation
Show a picture of a clock. Describe the clock. What are the different parts of a
clock? What are the things you can see in a clock?
C. Presentation
The Gymnastic Clock
The Little Clock is friend with me
It talks as plain as it can be
And says, each morning as it rises
“Now, don’t forget your exercises!”
Both hands above your head, you know!
Then lower then very slowly so;
Oh! Don’t get tired and stop that way!
“I exercise like this, all day!”
Right in its face the, I say Pooh!
I wouldn’t boast of it, like you
“But I can swing my arms round, too!”
And so, the clock then looks at me!
And I look back and I and he
Each single morning, when we rise,
Just exercise and exercise.

Ask:
1. Name the two characters in the poem.
2. What does the clock tell the speaker each morning?
3. Does the clock stop its exercise anytime?
4. What similarity do the speaker and the clock share?
5. What is the importance of doing exercises every day?
D. Discussion
What geometric figure does each hand represent?

<ABC is read as angle ABC

<BAC is read as angle BAC
<ACB is read as angle ACB
 Ray AB meets with Ray AC at point A.
 When two rays meet at a common endpoint, they form an angle.
 Point A, the common endpoint is called the vertex.
Angles can be classified according to their measurements. An angle is measured in degrees (°).
1. Right Angle measures 90°. It forms a square corner.

2. Acute Angle measures less than 90°. It is smaller than a right angle.

3. Obtuse Angle measures more than 90° but less than 180°.

IV. Exercises
A. Tell whether each kind of angle is right, acute or obtuse.
_______ a)

_______ b)

_______ c)
_______ d)

_______ e)

B. Draw the following angles (using a ruler/protractor)

1. <ABC – acute angle
2. <DEF – obtuse angle
3. <GHI – right angle

C. Identify the given time for each clock and then write the kind angle shown.
1. Time: __________
Angle: __________

2. Time: __________
Angle: __________

3. Time: _________
Angle: _________

4. Time: _________
Angle: _________
5. Time: ________
Angle: ________

D. In one Oslo paper, draw and color your dream house using different angles. Label the angles
used. Then, write 3 – 5 sentences about your dream house.
