Doing an MBA takes a lot of
time and money. But do you
get a great job at the end of it?
I talked to some business
people to find out.
I started by asking
Professor Trevelyan, from
Rushton School of Business,
what she thought. ‘You have
to be sure that this is what you
want to do. Some people do
an MBA simply because their
company pay for them to do it.
But you have to be interested
in the course itself. You’ll
often find the theory very
difficult and want to go back to
your practical job. So make
sure you find the right course
for your interests.’
Next I talked to some of
Rushton’s students. One very
satisfied student was Laura
Marina. ‘Yes, I love it,’ she
smiles. ‘The staff give us
lectures; afterwards we
students talk over what we’ve
heard. That’s when I get the
most interesting ideas. Next
year, we have to do a big
project – I’m quite nervous
about it!’
I also went to visit some
former students of Rushton to
see how they have
progressed since they did
their MBA. Thomas Müller is
very pleased with his career
since finishing at Rushton
three years ago. ‘I’m now a
line manager and have much
more responsibility. And I
learnt so much. When
something happens, I have
lots of ways of thinking about
it, and so I can always find a
good solution to problems. I
hope the same has been true
for my fellow students.’
So, it seems that if you’re
the right kind of person with
the right attitude, an MBA will
be good for your career.
