BACK TO THE FUTURE

Although flying automobiles may not yet be a reality, 'Back to the Future 2' foresaw the
popularity of flat-screen TVs, drones, and 3D in society in 2015. In the 1989 film, Michael J.
Fox's Marty McFly employs a variety of devices.

Marty McFly rides hover boards and flying automobiles rule the skies in "Back to the Future
Part II," which was released in the 1980s. Today, we have flat-screen TVs and biometric
identification, but we still need self-lacing shoes and rejuvenation clinics.

Things the movie got right:

- Flat Screen TVs: Since the 1980s, televisions have undergone significant transformation,
and in 2015, we may expect to see even more cutting-edge models of flat screen TVs. The
first see-through television and more 4K televisions are also on the horizon.

- Video conferencing: Technology for video conferences is another area where Marty clearly
foresaw the future. Let's see, there are a ton of video real-time conferencing tools available,
including Skype, Face Time, Oovoo, Snap Chat, and many more.

- Biometric identification: In 2015, we may anticipate seeing more biometric technology,

which is already present on our phones. With the Nymi band, users will soon be able to
unlock more than just phones and computers with their fingerprints; they will also be able to
open doors. Customers will presumably also witness further advancements of a similar nature.

- 3D: These days, it seems like everything is in 3D, just like it was in the movie. We observe
it in video games, home television, and even comic novels.

- Holographic displays: While sharks may not be appearing at random to promote movies,
do you recall Tupac's 2012 Coachella comeback? Although holograms have been around for a
while, in 2015 we should expect to see more of them in usage.

- Drones: They're all over the place! Drones will continue to garner national attention in 2015
and become more widely used among consumers. This was depicted in the movie accurately.
Except that, unlike in the movie, drones don't currently walk our dogs.
Things the movie got wrong:

- Clinics and rejuvenation masks: A lot of people would benefit from these clinics and
rejuvenation masks, but sadly the technology is not yet available. We won't be able to remove
the skin off our faces and appear as youthful and attractive as Doc did in the film.

- Hover board: Despite numerous attempts, there still isn't a hover board that resembles the
red anti-gravity board that Marty uses to fly through the air in the movie. We'll have to wait
until virtual reality gaming consoles are available to find out whether a hover board
simulation game is developed.
- Self-lacing shoes: If these were available, every child's life would be made so much
simpler. Actually, everyone's lives would be made lot simpler. Although they do not already
exist, self-lacing shoes may do so soon. Self-tying sneakers are allegedly being developed by
Nike.

- Fax and phone booth: One of the greatest predictions the film got incorrect was the
existence of fax machines and phone booths. In the movie, fax machines could be found
wherever the main character went. They are still utilized, although not to the extent that the
movie suggested. Also uncommon are phone booths. Those two pieces of technology are
unquestionably obsolete.

- Flying automobiles: Having air highways, flying cars, and even time-traveling autos would
be great. Cars, however, differ from the rest of the technology in that they are not developing
and changing as quickly. Although flying cars have been developed, none have an appearance
similar to the DeLorean DMC-12.
