Penicillin

Penicillin is a member of a group of antibiotics that are widely used to treat bacterial infections. Before
the introduction of antibiotics, there were no effective treatments for infections caused by bacteria,
such as pneumonia, tuberculosis, gonorrhea or rheumatic fever. But the drug's accidental discovery in
the late 1920s ushered in a new age of medicine.

In my opinion penicillin is very important in our daily lives because without antibiotics we would die
from certain illnesses that people nowadays don’t consider fatal. Penicillin was discovered by Alexander
Fleming, a professor of bacteriology in London. When he came back from vacation, he found a plate
with a bacteria and a mold which was preventing it from expanding.

I think it is very interesting how such an important discovery that has a very big impact on our lives was
made by accident..
