A: Look at the top three candidates! They are so talented, right? I
think if I were a job seeker, I couldn’t have won the first round not to mention getting in the last round as they did. B: Let’s see how they overcame thousands of job seekers to write their name in the top. A: The first one named Maria, from Washington D.C. She is very young, just 21 years old but she is a former Harvard student with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Filmmaking B: Hmm... She has no work experience. A: Don’t focus on that point. Not only does she speak English, German, Turkish and Russian well but she’s also flexible and cooperative, which can be beneficial for future work. B: You are right. In addition, her hobbies are retouching Hollywood blockbusters, listening to classic music and jogging. These kinds of activities match with our boss’s hobbies. A: What about the next one? B: His name is Johnson, 25 years old and from Vientian. A: Unlike Maria, he didn’t go to university, he just has high school certificate. B: But he has more experience, he worked as sales manager for music club. A: He speaks only English, which is a drawback for such a young, experienced individual. Have you noticed that he mentioned in the CV as a serious employee when it comes to working? Would this character fits our company and our boss? B: Yes I have, but he also wrote that he is an diligent and conscientious worker so I suppose he will be just fine. A: I don’t know but I like his interest. Watching movies and composing music are hobbies that will strengthen relationships between him and his colleagues. B: Let’s have a look at the last one, she is Anna, from Vietnam and know some languages of Asian. I think it will boost our development. A: She has Doctor of Philosophy, having worked for movie theater as an assistant. Especially, she is lovely, friendly and helpful. This really makes me admire her. B: All of them are worth hiring. Now, I have no idea. Can we meet directly tomorrow and discuss more? A: Yes, in cafe near our company, agree? B: See you soon. A conversation between the head of the human resource department (C) and the CEO (D). C: Sir, as you mentioned last week that you need to employ an assistant for your trip to Singapore next month, our headhunters have spotted three brilliant individuals that are fit for the position. But before I gave you their CVs, I wonder what are your ritercia? D: There are numerous reasons why I am very sophisticated when it comes to hire a person who works close to me. I am not searching for the best but aiming for the most suitable for the company’s vision. C: Can you name some factors? I have been working in this employing and sacking individuals for a decade but the type of person you are looking for is still a mystery to my profession. D: Firstly, that person has to meet basic characteristics such as: curious, determined, dedicated, hard-working and ambitious. An individual who satisfy those factors I mention above is obviously going to achieve great success throughout his life. C: I understood those. However, the last one who worked for you had all those qualifications but still got sacked. How could you justify your decision? D: Well, hiring a good employee is different from searching for a person who can let me mentor them in order to take over my work when I retire or in times of trouble. A talented but stubborn staff will not provide much benefits for the firm in the long run. The one I hope you will find for me should be an aspiring, energetic employee; he or she has to have the ambition of elevating the company to a whole new level. C: I think so too, a person with expertise won’t find his spot in this market without the determination to become greater than who he thinks he is. He or she needs to adopt our vision and realize our goals as this field has become more competitive than ever before. D: It’s good now that we are on the same page. Can you please give me their CVs? C: Here you are. <Chèn ảnh 15 minutes later> D: Well this didn’t surprise me. All candidates have proper background and fine attitude towards their career. But I think the one we are finding is Maria, she may scarce of working experience but her education and the fact that having a head for languages means that she can cope with new challenges easily. I couldn’t remember the last time I work with a person who speaks fluently 4 languages. C: All right, I will inform her to come to our Washington D.C. branch to interview. D: Okay, I hope that you can explain the interviewer what I want the most from her. The trip next month is a strategic movement of our company so I hope besides the criteria I made, the qualifier should have the ability to adapt quickly.
The conversation between the interviewer (E) and Maria (F):
E: Welcome to the interview Maria. F: Hello, it’s such a pleasure to be here. E: Yes you are right, according to the human resource department, you have successfully defeated hundreds of applicants and our leader said nice things about your background. F: Honestly I haven’t thought there were so many competitors, fortunately, here I am getting a decent job at a multi-national corporation. I hope that I deserve such an amazing opportunity. E: Don’t worry, there are reasons why you are the one we chose. However, before you sign the labor contract, I have to say something first. F: What is it? E: The leader who approved you is a fastidious guy, he pays attention to details and asks people to face terrible circumstances. Thats how the firm acquired so many achievements in the national competition in just two decades. Working under his control may feel intolerable at first but I believe if you can show your persistence to the work, the job will provide you the most valuable experience you will ever receive. F: Well, I used to be a shy girl who always run away from issues. But ever since I successfully win a place in such a prestigious university, I have been forcing myself to reach out of my comfort zone. Now I am well capable of working under pressure and hungry for new quests. E: I believe time will prove your perseverance and the leader will acknowledge you. The trip that you are going with him is heading to Singapore. The event held in there is a chance for our company to expand our influence and impact to the community, that’s why he wanted to find such an outstanding individual. F: Yes, I bear that in mind. I learned many languages but I have never really travel abroad, my knowledge of their culture is insufficient so it would be hard for me to keep up with things. Although I still doubt myself on this task but I am sure I can accomplish it. E: That’s the spirit. Now, please sign these papers and get ready to meet up your boss.
