CHU - PARTNER A: You are a personel Officer in the head of a

International company. You are visiting one of your European branch and
meeting with partner B. discuss recruiting a new marketing manager. Here
what you think: use specialist recruitment agency – advertising on national
express is expensive and cannot find the right candidate – no existing
internal staff.

TRISSI - PARTNER B: You are the manager of the European branch.

Partner A visit and discuss recruitment for the job of marketing manager. Here
what you think: advertise on the national express and dal with the applicant
for yourself. There is somebody in the company can be a suitable candidate.

B: Good morning, Ms. Helen. Thank you for saving time to come to our
branch.

A: Good morning Mr. Henry. I’ve to say that my flight was delayed a
couple of hours.

B: Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that. But I’m appreciate that you could go to
our office. Now, please come in, and have a seat. Uhm, would you like to have a
tea or coffee?

A: A cup of tea, please. Thank you.

B: How was the weather when you were flight to our country?

A: Quite good. It had a little bit noisy so I could not sleep.

A: Can we have a word about the search for a new marketing manager at
your branch office? This position belongs to Mr. V but he has just retired
recently so we need a replacement. Well, I think my idea will be interested you,
I suggest we use a specialist recruitment agency. They can search for the right
candidates in various countries and cover a much wider area than an advert in
the paper. Besides, they can conduct initial interviews, then give us a shortlist.
Which can help us save time.
B: You have a great idea. I understand the advantages of using
recruitment consultancy, but in our country they don’t have a very high profile
and they also would not know the company better than we do. I believe it would
be more effective if we use the orthodox ways, why don’t we advertise the
position in the national press and handle the applications ourselves. This is the
usual procedure here, and it allow us to have a more personal touch with the
candidates.

A: I am afraid that I cannot agree with you that. Advertising in the

national press is high-price and there is more of a risk that you will not find the
right candidate.

B: I see your point. But can you please consider my suggestion in

promoting internal candidate who could be a suitable fit for the marketing
manager. Promoting internal can be a fantastic way to reward talent and
maintain continuity within the organization. Her name is Annie, she has been
with our company in the marketing department for several years, so that she
understands our company culture and products well.

A: I have heard that Ms. Annie be a conceivable candidate but the

problem is that she is quite young, isn’t she? She just graduated 3 years ago. I do
not think she can take this position. This job requires 5-7 years of experience in
marketing, managerial experience or a university degree in marketing, business
or a related field is usually required. Ability to develop marketing strategies
aligned with overall business goals. In-depth knowledge of digital marketing
channels, including social media, and content marketing. Excellent written and
verbal communication skills. Ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and
compelling manner.

B: I understand your concerns but she has successfully led several

campaigns, demonstrating not only creativity but also a good understanding of
our brand. She’s proactive, detail-oriented, and has a solid grasp of the local
market dynamics. Also, she has a bachelor of Marketing from New York
University in the USA. Additional, last year she awarded the best marketing
staff of the whole group because of her excellent performance that increase the
profit up to 30%.

A: Impressive.

B: As you can see, we could save time and money because Annie knows
our company culture and cooperation very well, also we can skip probation
period.

A: You got a point. However, we should consider whether Annie is ready

for the managerial responsibilities that come with the marketing manager role.
Have you discussed this possibility with her?

B: I haven’t yet, but I believe she’s ready for the challenge. I propose we
have a conversation with her to gauge her interest and assess her readiness for
the role.

A: I think that we should consider Annie for this position which might
arrange an appointment with Annie for the initial interview about this position.

B. Yes, I would do that.

A: it seems a little bit late for me. I have another appointment at 2pm. I
would check my schedule and arrange the suitable time for Annie and you. Ok.
See you soon. I’m looking forward to meeting you and Annie again. Just keep
me posted, pleased.

B: No problem. Thank you and have a nice day.
