Your friend has cancelled his flight to Phuket Island in Thailand for fear of a Tsunami.
Using the important relevant concepts, explain what a psychologist would say about the
situation.

A psychologist would say that a number of cognitive biases, including the

availability heuristic and the affect heuristic, likely contributed to my friend’s decision to
postpone his fight to Phuket Island in Thailand due to his anxiety about a tsunami. A
cognitive bias known as the availability heuristic causes people to base their judgments
or decisions on how quickly they can recall or remember information. In this situation,
my friend might be exaggerating the likelihood of a tsunami as a result of recent news
reports or easily available images of previous tsunamis in his memory.People tend to
base their judgments or decisions on their emotional responses to things, which is known
as the affect heuristic. In this instance, my friend may be making the decision to cancel
his flight out of excessive worry or anxiety related to the potential for a tsunami.A
psychologist would probably advise my friend to analyze the actual likelihood of a
tsunami occurring before making a decision and to consider the data with
objectivity. They might also recommend mindfulness or relaxation exercises as ways to
deal with anxiety or fear.
