They are suitable for step- lessty varying the speed of three-phase induction motors. The output ratings range from 60 kVA to 160 kVA. In the basic version, SIMOVERT P series 6SE12/13 converters can be used only for two-quadrant op- eration. However, the converter version with pulsed resistor unit (PW) is capable of four-quadrant opera tion. They aro suitable for use in single-motor and multi-motor drives employing induction motors (IND) land synchronous motors (SYNC) (2.9. pumps, fans, roller table drives). Dofined interfaces in the contro! section permit modifications and extensions to be made when neces- sary to suit particular applications. 1.2 Operating fundamentals SIMOVERT P series 6SE12/13 converters are designed to produce a three-phase system with variable frequency and load-dependent current from a constant-frequency, constant-vottage three-phase sys tom. ‘The line voltage applied via the input terminals is rectified and then smoothed by means of capacitors in the DC link (see Fig. 1.2) The transistorized inverter uses the constant DC-link voltage to produce a three-phase system to sup- ply the motor. The inverter transistors (IGBTs) are driven by a current controller. The instantaneous cur- Fent requirement of the motor is continuously calculated by a microprocessor, either on the basis of a simple Vitiz characteristic or a field-oriented (vector) control. It is not necessary to measure the actual ‘motor speed with a tachometer or pulse generator. The current controller used allows very low output frequencies to be set. Owing to the very low har- monic currents in the motor (see Fig. 1.1), additional losses can be minimized and very smooth run ning characteristics achieved. To adjust the motor to the specific requirements of an application, the magnetization current canbe in- creased or reduced. This function can be used to produce high breakaway torques or particularly low-noise and low-loss operation under partial-load conditions, 09. ‘operation of pumps and fans. The converter can be overloaded briefly by 50 % during a temporary in- crease in the load on the con- ected motor. Fig. 1.1. Typical ourput currant at t = 2 Hz ‘The converter is operated via a panel with plaintext display. Alternatively, control commands can be is- sued via a terminal block of a serial interface. In an automation system network, converter control com- mands and setpoints are input via an interface or a technology board (both optional). For general applications, it is merely necessary to enter the motor nameplate data in order to match the converter to the motor itis powering. Insiructons 3 Connections WARNING SIMOVERT P 6SE12/13 voltage-source DC-link converters are operated on high voltages. All work on the unit must be carried out by qualified personnel. Fallure to observe these warnings may result in death, grievous injury or substantial damage to property. “The OC-tink capacitors cause high voltage to persist in the unit for up to 3 min- tutes after disconnection from the supply. Before opening tho unit door, there- fore, make sure that the main switch is open and wait until the voltage has ‘dropped to a safe level. Any contact with the partially accessible internal com- orients of the chassis Units must be avoided for safety reasons. Forming the DC-link capacitors: It the converter is out of operation for long periods of time. the OC-iink capaci- tors must be reformed every six months. This can be dona simply by connect: ing the unit to the supply and leaving it switched on for approximately 30 min utes (motor does not need to be connected). ‘Tho units should not be stored or left unconnected to the supply for a period of ‘more than 2 years. After along storage period, the OC-iink capacitors must be formed as described above. ‘When working on the open converter, note that live parts are exposed. “The line voltage is still present at the radio interference suppression board even after disconnection from the supply by means of main switch "Ot". Parts of the equipment may be live even when the motor is stationary, @.9 = line connection terminals U1, V1 and W1, = output terminals U2, V2 and W2, = motor terminals, = DC-ink coupling terminals (Chapter 3.2) = terminals for connecting an external brake resistor if present (see Chapters 8 and 9.4) ‘The user is responsible for installing and connecting the motor, converter, transformer and other items of equipment in accordance with the technical reg- ulations valid in the country of installation (VDE, VBG 4 in Federal Republic of Germany) and other applicable lacal codes, which cover such items as wiring size and protection, grounding, disconnects, overcurrent protection and protec: tion against dangerous shock currents 3.1 EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) The term “electromagnetic compatibility” refers to two complex areas, ie. the emitted interference and interterence immunity. This means, on the one hand, that electrical equipment acts as a source of interference on its electrical environment and may have an undesirable effect on other equipment. On the other, it may also be Caused to malfunction by interference from other electrical units, e.g. crosstalk in signal cables. SIMOVERT P converters 6SE12/13 are designed to satisty very high standards in terms of electromag netic compatibility. However, the operator must install the converter correctly to ensure maximum effec tiveness of the measures taken. 12 Siemens AG SWE 470 110.9008 76 Ja-101 SIMOVERT P 6SE12/13 Instructions ‘The most important EMC measures are as follows: © Tomi ize interference emission 1. Use shielded motor cables. making sure that the shield is properly gounded at both the converter and motor ends (observe Note in Chapter 3.2.4, Connecting the motor) Ifa shielded cable is not available, an unshielded motor cable can be laid in @ metal conduit wich acts as a shield. The conduit must be continuous with a direct electrical contact to the con- verter and motor housings. 2. Shielded cables must be used to connect the external brake resistor. The shield must be con- rected at the converter and at the brake resistor housing. ‘3. When connecting cables to the converter power terminals, leave the largest possible distance be- tween the incoming AC supply cables and the motor cables. The motor cable shield must also be connected to PE2. ‘© To maximize intorterence immunity 4. The PE terminals of the converter and of higher-level control units must be connected to one an- other and to the PE of the supply system via the shortest possible route (low impedance using ground strip if necessary). Peak voltages. which may cause malfunctions, will otherwise occur be- Seen the converter ground and the ground connection of the control unit, 2. Shielded signal cables must be used: connect the shield at both ends. It is best to connect the Shields to frame potential over a large area by attaching them by means of a hose clip to the aluminium duct on the immediate left directly above or below the control board. Connecting the Shield at one end is of advantage only in exceptional cases (e.g. to prevent hum loops with sensi- tive analog signals). In such cases, check to make sure that st is not in fact necessary to contact the open shield end via a suppression capacitor (i.e. for RF suppression). 3. Never route the motor and signal leads in parallel (andlor in close proximity to one another) even if they are shielded, 4. Do not put unit into operation uniess the door is closed. 5. Connect converter and higher-level control units to separate supply systems if possible. If this is fot possible, the control unit and converter must each have a separate supply cable from the common supply system. 6. Contactors and relays located close to one another or in the same cubicle must be equipped with AC elements 7, Placement of isolating amplifiers at control board inputs/outputs (see also Chapters 3.4.1 and 96). 3.2 Power terminals ‘Connection Converter terminal a Tamara UP UT Tin SAC a00v £159% 49 Hew St He Inconing soppy 3 ba) % ingure Com nase relation; nase 3 |W Jenon: craze core hae raion: CW pra sarc rs . The 6SE12/13 serial interface (Sl) (slave) communicates with the master (e.g. PC) via a so-called "dedicated protocol” in a point-to-point configuration. ‘The following specifications apoly to the RS 232 (V.24) interface used in 6SE12/13 equipment: = Baud rate 2400 baud ~ S232 protocol - Data packet 1 start bit, 8 data bits, 1 parity bit and 1 stop bit = Message structure: STX character, 8 characters of useful data and BCC character (otaling 10 characters) = Cyclic operation (internal time check of 100 ms for valid message). x11 x12 x13 x14 2130, DUTT X31 Fig. 35 Arrangement of DIP switches $1 10 $6 on CCU board 28 Siemens AG SWE 470 110.9006 76 Ja-101 SIMOVERT P 6SE12/13 Instructons 3.6.2 Speci ication for dedicated protocol The dedicated protocol provides a serial point-to-point link between the converter and a PC. Data are exchanged according to the half-duplex method on the basis of a pure master-slave principle: Every time the converter receives an error-free message, it immediataly transmits a response message to tho PC. The converter never transmits a message independently, but only in response to a message from the control system, 3.6.2.1 Character frame for dedicated protocol Every transmitted character begins with a start bit followed by 8 data bits. 1 parity bit and 1 stop bit (@ total of 11 bits per character) Tho parity used is even iB ssl lelr Next start bit numbere ie. the number of CL logical “ones” (including the parity bit) must form an even umber. Stop bit ‘Start bit Parity bit (even) 3.6.22 Message structure for dedicated protocol In data words, the LOW byte is always transmitted before the HIGH byte. enone ‘sx | pata] paral oata| pata oara | pata |oaTA| DATA] BOC at2taltai;sistz7] se Every message begins with the start character STX (02H), followed by the net data bytes. The mes- sage is concluded with the calculated BCC (Block Check Character). In a four-word message, the net data consist of 8 bytes. ‘The BCC is formed through exclusive-OR gating of all the message characters, starting with the STX. ‘With this method, the STX is exclusively OF’d with the data character 1; the result is exclusively OR’d with the data character 2 and so on until the last data character. The end result is stored with its parity bit in the BCC location. The BCC panty bit is calculated purely from the ECC value 3.6.2.3 Mandatory timing for dedicated protocol Since the start character "O2H" can occur at any point within a message, there must be an interval be- tween messages to mark the start of a new message. The interval immediately before the STX charac ter of a new message must correspond to at least 60 % of the length of a valid message. The required interval length is afforded because data are transmitted in half-duplex mode and the slave does not respond until it has received a complete message trom the master. Owing to the mandatory interval between two messages, the intervals within the message itself must rot be too long. The protocol specifies that the maximum transmission time of any message must not Gxceed 180 % of the transmission time for a valid message if it had no intervals betwoen the individual characters. ‘The transmission time without intervals is calculated from the total of all message bits divided by the baud rate, For example, if a 4-word message has 1 start byte, 8 data bytes and 1 BCC (ie. a total of 10 bytes and 110 bits) and the baud rate is 2400, then the transmission time (without intervals) is calcu- lated as follows: 110 110 = 0,048 s (46 ms) transmission time without interval Sioa 5 (46 ms) 1 ion time without intervals.
