Only qualified personnel should work on or around this equipment. The personnel must be thoroughly acquainted with all safety instructions and all measures specified in this document regarding transportation, instal- lation and operation of the unit. Satisfactory and safe operation of this equipment is dependent upon proper transportation, installation, operation and servicing Definitions © QUALIFIED PERSON "Qualified person” as used in this instruction manual and in the warnings on the products themselves is one who is familiar with the installation, assembly, commissioning and operation of the equipment and the hazards involved. In addition, he has the following qualifications: 1. Is trained and authorized to energize, de-energize, ground and tag circuits and equipment in accordance with established safety practices. 2. Is trained in the proper care and use of protective equipment in accordance with established safety practices. 3. Is trained in rendering first aid. © DANGER "Danger" as used in these operating instructions and in the warnings on the products themselves means that death, grievous injury or extensive damage to property will occur if the appropriate precautions are not taken. © WARNING "Warning" as used in these operating instructions and in the warnings on the products themselves means that death, grievous injury or extensive damage to property may ocour if the appropriate precautions are not taken. © CAUTION “Caution” as used in these operating instructions and in the warnings on the products themselves means that minor personal injury or damage to property may occur if the appropriate precautions are not taken. © NOTE “Note” as used in these operating instructions highlights an important item of information about the product or a section of the instructions which requires careful attention. 8 Siemens AG SWE «59 611.9054.76 JW-101 SMOVERT A Maintenance, Oisgrass and Repar 1 Maintenance WARNING Voltages exceeding 1000 V are used in the operation of this equipment and can cause loss of life or severe personal injury. ‘The converter voltage does not drop to a harmless level (<60 V) for at least 2 minutes after disconnection from the supply. Extreme care must be taken when working on the equipment. The equipment must be installed in accordance with the applicable National Electrical Code (VBG 4 in Federal Republic of Germany) and any other state or local codes. It is essential to follow the safety instructions listed below: = Only qualified maintenance personnel may test and repair this equipment and parts thereof. = During normal operation, keep all covers in place and cabinet doors shut = if the discharge resistors in the commutating capacitors have failed, dangerously high voltages are present in the unit for a long period of time. Before touching any electrical contacts, check to ensure that the voltage between two thyristor-anode terminals in the machine-end converter is less than 60 V. Failure to observe this warning may result in grevious or even fatal injury. ~ Ia short-circuit has occurred in the unit, all screw-type connections and busbars must be checked before the unit is switched on again. — When it is necessary to take measurements with the power turned ‘on, do not touch any electrical connection points. Keep one hand completely clear of the electrical circuitry all the time. = Do not use any measuring equipment if you know that it is dam- aged or defective. = When servicing the unit with the power on, stand on some type of ulation (anti-static) and ensure that this is not grounded. ~ When working on a machine connected to the supply or on the sup- ply line to the machine, the main switch on the equipment or the relevant circuit-breaker in the distribution board for the plant must be locked in the OFF position by means of a padlock. = When performing maintenance work and routine checks for visible defects, make sure that all power supplies for the equipment are switched off and that the incoming circuit-breaker in the plant is locked in the OFF position. Use only authorized spare parts in the repair of the equipment. The inspection intervals as well as the instructions for repair and re- placement shall be duly observed. Non-observance of these safety instructions can result in death, severe Personal injury or substantial property damage. ‘Siemens AG — SWE 459 511,905478 yw-101 SMOVERT A Maintenance, iagness and Repair. ‘© The SIMOVERT A converter unit requires no maintenance. ‘© The fan bearings are designed for the following service periods: For converters of construction type A: 25,000 hrs type type B: 25,000 hrs type type C: 20,000 hrs ‘The fans must be replaced at the prescribed intervals to guarantee continuous availability of the converter. 25,000 hrs 20,000 hrs '* Dust deposits inside the converter should be carefully removed at regular intervals (at least ‘once a year) by qualified personnel. The unit must be cleaned with a brush and vacuum ‘cleaner, or with dry compressed air (max. 1 bar) in inaccessible parts. ‘© The converters are designed for a defined short-circuit current on the input side (see Chap- ter 3 "Technical Data” in Description 6SC2300-8BU76); the prescribed fuses (see Commis- sioning Instructions "Start-up, Programs”, Order No.: 6SC2300-80U76) are capable of dis- connecting this current to prevent any damage to the converter. Short circuits occurring inside the converter and at the motor end cause internal protective devices to respond. © In cabinet units with the M11 option (dust protection), the state of the filler mats must be checked regularly (once a month at the beginning) to ascertain how quickly they become clogged. The mats must then be replaced at appropriate intervals. 10 ‘Semens AG SWE 459 611 9054.76 JW-101 SMOVERT A Maintanance.
