Emona

The white shawl is an essential accessory for every occasion. This shawl was inspired by Ljubljana,
formerly named Emona, the capital of Slovenia. It is easy to make and suitable for advanced
beginners. The shawl is an asymmetrical triangle with a leaf pattern throughout.

Pattern includes written and chart instructions.

Sizes & measurements

Wingspan: 170 cm (67”)

Central depth: 75 cm (29.5”)

Materials

Sport weight yarn 50 g (1.76 oz) = 167 m (182 yd), 70% Alpaca, 30% Silk

170 g; 6 oz; (570 m; 623 yd), 4 skeins

Needles: 3.5 mm (US 4) or size needed to meet the gauge

Scissors, a tapestry needle, and a row counter are recommended

For the model in the photo Baby Alpaca Silk, Drops was used in white color (no. 1101).

Yarn substitute recommendations:

Performance: Cool Wool

Drops: Alpaca
Mondial: Extrafine
Schachenmayr: Regia Premium Silk
Alize: Angora Gold, Angora Real 40

Gauge

23 sts  30 rows in 1010cm (44”)

Worked over stockinette stitch, blocked.

Gauge is not essential for this project, but any change will affect the yardage required.

Pattern notes:

The shawl is an asymmetrical triangle that is worked flat.

Increases are done only on the right sides.
The stitch pattern between two asterisks (*) should be repeated.
To make the edge nice and stretchy, add an extra yarn over after the increase stitch on each
of the right side rows, and then drop it in the wrong side rows.
Double yarn over is resolved by purling the first yarn over through the front loop, and the
second through the back loop. Be careful not to let the loop fall off the needle.
