1ST AND 2ND TERM

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

1. In order to pass the term, the student must reach a minimum of 60% of the total score.
2. Points are granted for attendance (0.5 per class), quizzes (5-8 pts each), tests (ca. 35 pts
each), reading assignment (30 pts – see p. 2) and performance (20+ pts depending on the
amount of written homework, press reviews (0.5 each), work done on MEL etc.) The total
score may vary from 130 to ca. 160 points, depending on the number of quizzes, amount of
homework and the scoring. Additionally, students may be occasionally given bonus points
for activities in class, which are not counted in the total, so they may slightly improve the
final score.
3. Additionally, there are practice quizzes on Moodle which are not obligatory, but if done
regularly, they may have a positive effect on the final grade. Moodle password:

4. The student must pass (= obtain 60% of the total score) at least one of the two tests.
However, if the collective test score is below 50 %, the student most probably fails the
term and has to retake both tests at one go.
5. Only two quizzes can be retaken during the exam session. (If there are only three quizzes
or fewer – which is theoretically possible – only one quiz can be retaken). In order to
retake quizzes a student MUST NOT have more than 3 absences.
6. The doctor’s sick leave is only considered if it refers to the tests. Other absences are noted
as zero points for attendance and press review and therefore should not be excessive + see
point 4 above.
7. If absences exceed 50% of all the 15 classes (i.e. 7 or more), the student must retake the
whole term.
