SCOPE
This procedure outlines the methods to be followed before/after the use of manual chain hoist.
HEALTH & SAFETY
All the workers shall be provided with safety equipment to all workers ensure that the same worker using
them in a properly way.
All worker should be made aware about the hazard and risk involved in activity. TBT should be conducted and
PTW should be issued clearly mentioning the responsibilities for manpower.
Our staff has the responsibility to check workmen wearing proper PPE at site daily.
If some worker will be found not wearing proper PPE, the supervisor will stop him and provide for those
immediately.
The item issued to the worker must be periodically inspected and changed in case that they are found
damaged or they do not meet the specified conditions.
Personal Protection Equipment
1. Hard‐Hat.
2. Hand Gloves (Leather or Cotton)
3. Dust Mask respiratory protection.
4. Safety Shoes.
5. Equipment and Clothing for body protection
Any other, as recommended by Supervisor/engineer.
INSPECTION BEFORE STARTING THE ACTIVITY
The operator shall perform a pre‐use inspection, if any deficiencies are found the hain hoist will be taken out
of service and the supervisor notified.
1.Visually inspect all load chains for gross damage that may be a hazard.
2.Hoist is properly secured.
3.The load does not exceed the load limit on the warning label.
4. Check that motions are smooth and regular with no hesitations, vibration, binding, unusual noise,
or other irregularity.
5.Chain is not kinked or damaged.

OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS
Before lifting inspect carefully the hooks, the load chain, the brake device and lubrication of the block. For
safe operation you must keep six rules as following.
1. Don't lift load exceeding the rated capacity of the chain block.
2. Don't use the block chain as a sling.
3. Don't use when the chain is kinking.
4. To avoid accidents working or passing under a lifting load is strictly forbidden.
5. In case of the hand chain fails to move. Don't use undue force. Stop operation and proceed
inspection of the chain block.
6. Only use to lift vertically, do not use to drag loads.
Lifting Load: Ensure area is clear of people and obstruction, and begin lifting by slowly pulling hand chain in
"U" direction.
Lowering Load: Ensure area is clear of people and obstructions, and reverse lifting procedure. It may be
necessary to apply extra initial effort to release friction between brake components.
