GENDER ISSUES WITHIN
BALALENG PUROK, BANTAY
1. Judgement on Clothing
- In my barangay, clothing is
oftentimes I observe that has been an
issue in my community especially on
how the person wear certain clothes
that may be revealing, intimidating, or
provocative but not at all. I often hear
it sometimes that people gossip about
it or just say it out of the blue without
even knowing that the person they are
talking back to is being insulted and
yet will have a low self-esteem and
confidence to be free because of those
people who judge and make
assumptions on who they are.
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS,
SUGGESTIONS OR
RECOMMENDATIONS TO SOLVE
IT
Implementing a Body Positive Fashion Group:
 Create a local community group or
organization dedicated to promoting body
positivity and self-expression through fashion
and style. Invite individuals from diverse
backgrounds, including fashion enthusiasts,
body-positive advocates, and community
members who have experienced judgment
based on their clothing choices, in order to
tell their experience and educate others how
the clothing does not describe a persons
character or the whole image of a person.
Workshops and Educational Sessions:
 Organize workshops and educational sessions
that focus on empowering women to embrace
their unique style and cultivate self-
confidence. These sessions can cover topics
such as body positivity, personal style
development, an eye opener to others who
judge how they wear clothes that defines
them to a bad image and style development.
Clothing Swap Events(Bado mo, Ibarter mo
event):
 Organize regular clothing exchange events
where community members can exchange
clothes they no longer wear or need. This
initiative promotes sustainability, encourages
participants to experiment with different
styles, and fosters a supportive environment
that minimizes judgment.
Fashion Show Celebrating Diversity in times of
barangay fiestas:
 Propose and establish an annual or bi-annual
fashion show that celebrates diversity and
inclusivity. Encourage community members
of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds to
participate as models, showcasing their

2. Unhealthy relationship bonds of some
families
- A weak bond not just only revolves
around the mother and father’s
relationship but also through each
members of the family. I often hear
certain topics in my community about
family. Arguments of partners, their
child being talked about through
negative words, being compared and
financial arguments that could lead to
broken families.
personal style and unique fashion choices.
This event can help challenge stereotypes and
inspire others to embrace their own sense of
style, and gain a more open minded to not
just the viewers but also future generations.
Open Communication:
 Encouraging open and honest communication
within the family is crucial. Family members
should feel safe Conveying their thoughts
and emotions without fear of judgment or
retaliation. Regular family meetings or
discussions can provide a platform for
everyone to express their concerns, thoughts
and opinions towards their partners, that
could not be resolve to abuse or violence
which also set a great example towards their
children.
Individual Self-Reflection(Boses mo, Ipaka-
ammom)
 Encourages each family member to engage in
self-reflection and take responsibility for
their actions and emotions. They will be put
to certain activity that lets them speak or
reflect on their actions. Through each
members of the family, the family will be
hearing it without knowing that they are all
near each other and just enjoying the activity
and also reflecting themselves, so that they
can improve a proper and stronger bond
towards each other as a family.
