Article of the Week: Cities Sinking
Summarize the Article on Jakarta:
Jakarta has been described as the fastest
sinking city in the world. Not only do they
have no room for people, but they are also
prone to earthquakes and are rapidly sinking
in the Java Sea. The main cause of the sink
is uncontrolled extraction of groundwater and
has been affected by the rise of the Java Sea
due to climate change; For this reason, they
have to move their capital to a safer place
that has no chance of sinking. On the other
hand, the decision to move the capital is
affecting not only the environment but also
the indigenous communities that have to
leave their homes to make room for the
government.

mm per year”. This is very impressive since it
is not something that is noticeable with the
naked eye but it is still something worrying
and that it is more serious than what is
believed.

articles? New York is looking for options to
build in a part that is more difficult to sink in
the same area of ​New York. Instead, Jakarta
is moving its capital to another place much
